Arlington Little League’s annual opening-day ceremony approaches

Barcroft Park Field No. 1 will be the main site of the annual Arlington Little League  2025 opening-day ceremonies, set for Sunday, April 6.

The event will begin between 1:30 and 2 p.m. with a parade of multiple baseball teams and their players and coaches onto the  main field at Barcroft Park, where games, announcements, recognitions and first pitches are scheduled to be thrown.

League president Adam Balutis told ARLnow details about opening day and possible guests are being finalized. One guest that will be on hand, like last year, will by the the Oriole Bird, the official mascot of the Baltimore Orioles.

A popular and traditional mini-cycle race, along with a hula-hoop contest, are two of the events planned.

Various local political leaders are expected to attend, in addition to players from Arlington’s Wakefield, Washington-Liberty and Yorktown high-school baseball teams. The players plan to greet the Little Leaguers by forming a human tunnel they parade through to enter the main field.

Space throughout Barcroft Park will be used for the event, which will include multiple sponsor tables with baseball gear and other paraphernalia, and a moon bounce.

The Wakefield baseball team will host the Arlington Food Assistance Center’s food donation drive next to the park’s batting cages. Last year, the drive collected 1,400 pounds of food in two hours.

Little League games of various age groups will be played on the Barcroft fields following the ceremony — assuming the weather cooperates.
