The top two scorers for the Bishop O’Connell Knights boys high-school basketball team this season earned all-state honors for their performances.
Junior guard and leading scorer Darius Bivins was a first-team Division I private-school selection in Virginia. Senior guard Shane Lincoln, the Knights’ No. 2 scorer, made the second team.
The backcourt mates helped O’Connell finish with a 23-10 overall record and second in the Division I state tournament from the No. 4-seed position.
O’Connell lost to second-seed Highland, 56-51, in overtime in the state final.
The pair also helped the Knights win the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in late December.
In 32 games, Bivins averaged 11.4 points per contest and made a team-best 43 three-point baskets. He also led in assists with 28, yanked 128 rebounds, had 63 steals and blocked 12 shots.
In the state-final loss, Bivins scored a team-high 16 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.
In 33 games, Lincoln averaged 10.3 points. He led the Knights with 74 steals and was second with rebounds (153), assists (80) and blocks (19).
Lincoln scored eight points and contributed four rebounds, three steals and two assists in the state final.
“They had good seasons and were a big part of what we did,” O’Connell coach Joe Wootten told ARLnow.
The players also received all-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference honors. Bivins made the first team and Lincoln the second.
