Spring season brought much success for Marymount teams

The spring season has been a high-water mark for Marymount University’s Division III sports teams.

There were five Saints squads that won Atlantic East Conference tournament titles, including the baseball and women’s softball squads on the same Saturday (May 10) afternoon.

As a result, the baseball team advances to region-tournament play and the softball squad moves on to the NCAA tourney. First-round action in those sports are this weekend.

Marymount’s other spring-tournament champions this spring were the women’s lacrosse team, the undefeated women’s flag football squad (15-0, 14 shutouts) and the women’s track-and-field unit.

Four other Marymount teams finished second in conference tournaments: men’s lacrosse, tennis and track-and-field and women’s golf.

The men’s golf team had its moment during the regular season by winning the Marywood Invitational.

The teams with the best overall records this spring were the flag football team at 15-0 and women’s lacrosse squad with a 17-3 mark.

The softball team entered the NCAA tournament with a 19-24 mark, having won nine of 13 contests entering that competition.
