Of the 27 recipients of this year’s $5,000 high-school scholarships presented at the annual Northern Virginia Athletic Directors Administrators and Coaches Association (NVADACA) breakfast banquet, four were from Arlington’s public schools.
The NVADACA organization has been awarding college grants to graduating high school seniors since 1980. This year’s banquet was held at Springfield Golf & Country Club, and the 27 winners were the most ever awarded in one year.
Founded in 1976, NVADACA has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to 600-plus students.
The 2025 honorees were recognized and introduced at the banquet, with their achievements plus a student message from each read aloud by master of ceremonies Jeff Wilson and NVADACA president Yvonne Griggs.
Arlington award recipients were Margaret Flannery-Goodman from Yorktown High School, Sydney Lowe and Isabelle Young-Smith from Wakefield High, and Kelly McIntyre from Washington-Liberty High.
Flannery-Goodman received the John R. Grinnell Scholarship, Lowe the Fran Kibler, Young-Smith the Maryann Schwab and McIntyre the John C. Youngblood.
Winners were selected from the hundred-plus seniors who applied from the Northern Virginia jurisdictions that have public high schools in Arlington and Fairfax counties and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church.
