Friday Power Lunch – Rights, Religion & the Fight for Democracy

Online event (see link)

This week we tackle one of the biggest questions facing America today: What happens when constitutional rights begin to erode? The Supreme Court ‘s decision to gut the voting rights act falls in line with some of the worst decisions made by the court. There are moments in history when the Supreme Court gets it gloriously right. And there are moments when its decisions leave scars on the soul of this country.

From voting rights and gerrymandering to church-state separation and the rise of Christian Nationalism, we’ll examine how recent court decisions are reshaping democracy, representation, and freedom itself.

Special Guests:

Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan discussing civil rights, Black representation, voting rights, and the ongoing fight for democracy.

Alessandro Terenzoni, Vice President of Public Policy, Americans United for Separation of Church and State

We’ll explore why the separation of church and state protects everyone’s freedom — and why many believe that wall is under attack. Because history teaches us: Rights can be expanded. Rights can also be taken away.
