The opening week of the summer season resulted in victories for all four of Arlington’s Northern Virginia Swimming League teams on Saturday morning.
The last time all four won in the same week was during the 2015 campaign, while the last time all four won their opening meets in the same season was 2005.
In one of those 2026 June openers — each held on June 20 — the Overlee Flying Fish in Division 1 routed the host Oakton Otters, 248-167.
In Division 3, the host Donaldson Run Thunderbolts downed the Mantua Marlins, 233-186. In Division 7, the Dominion Hills Thunder Ducks handled the visiting Springboard Barracudas 256-164.
In Division 9, the host Arlington Forest Tigers bested the Hollin Meadows Barracudas, 237-182.
Last season, Overlee and Donaldson Run lost their season openers, with the Tigers and Thunder Ducks winning.
In their 2026 openers, all four teams were led by swimmers who won two races each, in addition to having multiple single-event winners.
Overlee had seven double winners: Erin Yost, Abigail Hartman, Samantha Bravery, McKinley Busen, Violet Mullen, Holden Busen and Charles Hartman. Overlee’s single race winners were Aspasia Nicholakos, Blake Luongo, Mary Pickens, Henry Badanes, William Cravens, Miles Lewis, James Parker, Will Meagher and Jack Yost.
The team’s girls and boys relays combined to win seven races.
Donaldson Run had five double winners in its victory: Kate Edgerton, Eleanor Wertzler, Avery Wishneff, Luke Bracken and Theo Cahill. The team’s single winners were Anna Eliot, Atley Dickerson, Diya Redburn, Maire Hore, Olivia Choi, Mich Utz, Edward Schwartz and Christian Jacobs. The Thunder Ducks won eight relay races.
Leading Dominion Hills were double winners Kleo Macskasi, Allison Ervin, Andrew Aldonas, Luca Hardin, Tanner Langsdale and Henry Smith. The team’s single winners were Nora Ryan, Anna LeNard, Eva Ahn-Kitcher, Gryffin Fahle, Ella Aldonas, Vivian Fatouros, Emma Richard, Leonardo Hardin, Lorenzo Hardin, Daniel Teisl, Nathaniel Ervin, Keaghan Fahle and John Aldonas. Dominion Hills won eight relays.
For Arlington Forest in its victory, Sophie-Lou Mohr, Natalie Sottile, Evan Wilk, Alexander Dansereau and Cole Klapmust were double winners. Single winners were Helen Huggler, Brogen Cagianesa, William Locker, Stanley Hopwood, Walter Hopwood, Jake Hollandsworth, Evan Dickey, Joseph Dansereao and Jonah Mohr.
The Tigers won seven relay races.
The Arlington teams will attempt to improve to 2-0 on Saturday, June 27, in 9 a.m. matches against four teams with 0-1 records.
Overlee hosts Highlands Swim of McLean, Donaldson Run travels to Little Rocky Run in Clifton, Arlington Forest is at Villa Aquatic in Fairfax and Dominion Hills visits Waynewood in Alexandria.
Colonial Swimming League
The two Arlington teams in the Colonial Swimming League each improved to 2-0 with June 20 victories.
In the top Red Division, the Arlington Knights of Columbus Holy Mackerels defeated host Ashburn Farm, 293.5-157.5. In the White Division, the Fort Myer Squids defeated host Armfield Farm, 259.5-191.5.
In week one, the Holy Mackerels routed the Burke Centre Penguins, 355-89, and Fort Myer won big over host South Riding, 287-164.
In 8 a.m. Saturday, June 27 meets, the Knights of Columbus host the Burke Centre Stingers (1-1) and Fort Myer visits Chinquapin (0-2) in Alexandria.
