“Celebrating the Human Spirit” event honors those who overcame extraordinary challenges to make meaningful contributions to our community. This is a free get together for federal workers from our community to network and enjoy an uplifting evening. The event will include drinks, appetizers, music, and a silent art auction.
The event features Vienna Lionheart, the first female ambidextrous solo violinist and arranger, celebrated for performing with both hands on the violin simultaneously. Originally from Iran, Vienna will share her powerful story of escaping the brutality of an oppressive regime to build a new life in America.
The event will launch the “Matrix Art” collection by former Peace Corps volunteer Joseph (Joe) Connors. His notable works include Capitol in Snow, featured in the silent auction. During a period of home confinement, he transformed adversity into a new body of work that adds joy to his legacy.
The guest speaker is Adam Dunigan who overcame significant early challenges to earn a master’s degree in international relations from Harvard University using the GI Bill. He joined the Marines at an early age and later served as a CIA case officer. Believing the country was heading in the wrong direction and that he needed to act, he resigned from government service three years before qualifying for a pension. His sacrifice for our country has inspired many, young and old, to be more actively engaged in rebuilding our democracy. This includes the event organizer, Anne Ralte, who grew up as an orphan in northeast India and survived on USAID food aid, and later served at USAID in senior policy roles.
For those able to contribute, any donation will support the event organization and Adam Dunigan, Congressional Candidate (VA-8), who will protect our institutions such as USAID more fearlessly, and rebuild our democracy.
