Workshop: Intaglio Printmaking with Tetra-Pak plates at Art House 7

Two monochrome art prints show a white silhouette inside a house-shaped frame against a dark, leafy background; a hand holds the right print.

Discover the art of intaglio printmaking through an innovative and eco-friendly approach. Intaglio is a printmaking process in which an image is incised into a plate using sharp tools, allowing ink to settle into the recessed lines and create beautifully detailed prints. Traditionally, artists used copper or zinc plates, but contemporary printmakers have embraced alternative materials, including plexiglass and recycled Tetra Pak cartons.

In this workshop, we will explore one of the most sustainable forms of printmaking by transforming used Tetra Pak cartons—such as juice or milk containers—into unique printing plates. Students will learn how to prepare and carve their plates, ink and wipe them properly, and print their original designs by hand and a printmaking press.

Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, this workshop offers a creative introduction to printmaking while giving new life to everyday materials. Leave with a small edition of your own original prints and a new appreciation for the artistic possibilities of upcycling.
