Additional speed cameras will be keeping an eye on Arlington school zones during the upcoming school year, although the locations have yet to be announced.
A list of the new camera locations will be released soon, a spokesperson for the Arlington County Police Department told ARLnow.
A tipster told ARLnow that they have spotted new cameras near Tuckahoe Elementary School and Nottingham Elementary School, and a new sign is up at the intersection of N. Glebe Road and Williamsburg Blvd.
Arlington’s speed cameras are operational only when the school-zone beacons are flashing during student arrival and dismissal, with the civil fine going to the registered owner of the speeding vehicle.
Existing cameras remained active during Arlington Public Schools’ summer session, which ran from July 6 through 31. The number of tickets issued to summertime speeders isn’t currently available, since the process for reviewing, validating and issuing PhotoSPEED violations can take up to 30 days, according to ACPD.
Arlington’s first speed cameras were installed in August 2024. The program expanded in February and March of 2025, and again in August 2025.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the cameras captured tens of thousands of violations. According to ACPD’s 2025 annual report, 8,190 warnings were issued and 47,914 tickets were sent to the owners of speeding vehicles.
The average speed of vehicles that received a ticket was 32.85 mph, compared to an average speed of 19.95 mph for all traffic.
The owners of speeding vehicles receive a $100 ticket per infraction.
