ARLnow Daily Update podcast

Arlington’s local news, in about five minutes, every weekday afternoon.

Arlingtonians lead busy lives. Between careers, kids, commutes and everything else, not everyone has time to sit down and read the news — though we appreciate those who do.

The ARLnow Daily Update is for everyone else. Each episode runs 4-5 minutes and catches you up on our original local reporting from the past day: the county government decisions, the restaurant openings and closings, the development plans, the public safety news and the neighborhood stories you’d otherwise scroll past.

It’s free, it’s short, and it publishes every weekday.

What to expect

About 4-5 minutes. Roughly the length of a walk to the Metro, a dog walk around the block or the last stretch of your commute home.

New episodes every weekday. Published shortly after 4 p.m., around the same time our Afternoon Update newsletter hits inboxes.

Original local reporting. The Daily Update recaps what our newsroom actually reported — not a roundup of links from elsewhere.

Free for everyone. No membership, no paywall, no signup required.

How it’s made

The Daily Update is narrated by virtual hosts. That’s a deliberate choice: it means the podcast doesn’t pull our reporters away from reporting. The stories are ours — researched, reported and written by our newsroom in Arlington. The narration is automated so that producing a daily episode never comes at the expense of covering the county.

Longtime readers may remember our earlier daily news podcast, which was available only to Press Club members and was discontinued after members told us they’d rather we spend the time reporting than recording and editing. This version solves that problem — and it’s open to everyone.

Tell us what you think

We’re still making improvements. If something sounds off, or there’s something you’d like to hear in the show, send us a note. Reader feedback is how this gets better.
