A town hall on Arlington voters’ rights and responsibilities in the upcoming election is taking place next month.
A “voter safety community town hall,” hosted by Arlington’s Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and Office of Voter Registration and Elections, will happen on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington (4444 Arlington Blvd).
“Understanding voter rights is critical to maintaining free, fair, and accessible elections,” a press release says. “Voters who know their rights are better equipped to navigate the electoral process, identify credible information, avoid intimidation, and seek assistance if they encounter barriers to voting.”
The event will seek to help voters do the following:
- Learn about voter rights and election protections
- Check their voter registration status
- Register to vote or update registration information
- Receive information about absentee and early voting options
- Access nonpartisan election and ballot resources
- Connect with local organizations supporting civic engagement
Representatives from organizations including the Arlington NAACP, the League of Women Voters of Arlington and Alexandria, Spread the Vote, Moms Demand Action and We of Action will be in attendance.
“Every eligible voter deserves to feel informed, empowered, and safe when participating in our democracy,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti said.
The event promises “information about voter rights, election safety, and voter responsibilities ahead of upcoming elections.”
Dehghani-Tafti previously engaged with voter safety concerns during the 2024 election, when she launched a task force “to rapidly respond to and investigate any reports of voter intimidation, interference, or fraud.” At the time, Dehghani-Tafti emphasized her commitment to prosecute “any attempts to interfere with the voting process or intimidate voters.”
Several incumbents are seeking reelection in Arlington this year. U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D), U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D), County Board Chair Matt de Ferranti, School Board member Bethany Zecher Sutton and Treasurer Kim Rucker are all seeking to defend against challengers.
