Join Encore Stage & Studio for a special presentation of two original productions, From Nauck to Green Valley: Transforming a Community and The Day Nothing Happened. Journey through time as we revisit the first integrated school in Virginia and learn about the entrepreneurial spirit of the Green Valley neighborhood.

There will be a special talkback with Green Valley historian and native Dr. Alfred O. Taylor, Jr. following the Saturday April 27, 11am performance.

“We’re so honored to have Green Valley native and expert Dr. Taylor with us for the performance. His book inspired the story,” says Madaline Langston, Director of Programming. “We invite the community to enjoy the remount of our two productions for one weekend!”

Looking for an elementary school experience…

  • that strengthens your child’s character and creates no boundaries on your child’s intellect?
  • where your child lives for the school day not the weekend?
  • that fully engages your child socially and ignites them intellectually vs. being told “Be quiet!” and “Learn this for the test!”
  • where your child (and family) receives individualized attention rather than being one of too many?
  • that gives opportunity for your child to be a valuable, contributing member of a community?

To celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week (May 6-10, 2024), Clean Air Partners is working with A Few Cool Hardware Stores to exchange DC, Maryland and Virginia residents’ gas-powered lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers at select Ace Hardware locations in the region. DMV residents who turn in their gas-powered lawn tools will receive a FREE Ego Power+ replacement including batteries and chargers, while supplies last.

Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.

The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas. To participate and get your free Ego Power+ lawn tool, sign up at https://qrco.de/CAPExchange to reserve your tool and select your trade-in date and location.

This exchange is made possible by our generous sponsors the Maryland Department of the Environment, the DC Department of Energy and Environment, the Virginia Department of Environment Quality, the Fairfax County Office of Environment and Energy Coordination, Washington Gas, Pepco, SMECO, A Few Cool Hardware Stores, and Ego Power+.
