Graduation is an accomplishment. It is exciting and often marks the next important phase in someone’s life. Sometimes mixed in with those feelings of excitement are feelings of sadness. This bittersweet time can be because the people we love were not able to celebrate with us. We may also be saying goodbye to a place that was special and safe upon graduation.

These feelings can impact the graduate and their loved ones. Though proud and happy for their children, parents may struggle with their child leaving the nest and what this means for their parent identity. Parents and families may also struggle with missing people they believed and hoped would be alive to witness this achievement. The absence of a loved one is one of many secondary losses grievers experience around moments that are typically joyful.

June 16 is International Domestic Workers Day, and Well-Paid Maids is celebrating!

International Domestic Workers Day honors house cleaners, nannies and care workers. It marks the anniversary of the 2011 passage of the International Labour Organization Convention that established international labor laws for domestic workers.

Join us as we honor those who came before us, celebrating their fight for freedom. Together, we will reflect on our present achievements and unite in our determination to create a brighter future for generations to come.

This is a free, family-friendly event, proudly sponsored by Amazon, Arlington Community Federal Credit Union, Arlington Community Foundation, and WHUT. The 2024 theme is “What freedom means to me.” We are excited to provide an inclusive space for Arlington to enjoy live performances, fun activities, and connect in celebration of liberation.
