Local historian and reenactor Michael Schaffner will reveal the powerful story of Camp Casey—a Civil War training ground in Arlington for newly freed Black men who joined the US Army. Located near today’s Pentagon, Camp Casey was more than a military post—it was a symbol of freedom, hope, and change during a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. Hear the story and what we know about it and then see the artifacts related to it–all in the Arlington Historical Museum. This is one of our mini history series at our two museums. Attendance gives you 10% off all Civil War local history books in-person at our museum store.
