Artist Statement for ‘Conversations’:
“As a social justice activist artist my goal has always been to address social inequity and discrimination by focusing on society and politics, and making statements about history that highlight untold stories. My focuses been on creating themes that represent the interactions and relationships between stylized figures , and portraits in real, and sometimes juxtaposed environments. In my plexiglass and canvas paintings, the figures are often faceless to represent the spirit of the individual’s, and to reflect on what is invisible and visible. People, environments, experiences, writings, photography and sketches inspire my compositions, I use a variety of mixed media, including graphite, acrylic, oil, photographs, and found objects, which are layered on the surface of canvas, plexiglass or wood, and then assembled to become part of the narrative of the piece.” – TD
