Celebrate 50 Years of Air and Space

The National Air and Space Museum’s National Mall building turns 50 on July 1, 2026. To celebrate, we’re opening five new galleries as part of our ongoing renovation.

Visit on July 1 to be among the first to explore the new galleries and enjoy other activities marking 50 years of Air and Space, including:

Talk to Museum staff about what it takes to create exhibitions

  • Learn from experts about the stories and artifacts on display

  • Enjoy hands-on learning at the Museum’s Discovery Stations

  • Write a postcard to friends and family

  • Bring your little ones to Flights of Fancy Story Time (1:30 pm)

  • Take a Family Gallery Exploration (Destination Moon and Early Flight, 2:15 pm)

  • Look back at old exhibitions at our “Then and Now” station

  • Watch the IMAX films To Fly and The Dream is Alive (fees apply)

Note: The National Air and Space Museum in DC will open at 11 am on July 1. Timed-entry passes are required to visit. Reserve at airandspace.si.edu
