Free Dulcimer Lessons for International Appalachian Dulcimer Day

Celebrate International Appalachian Dulcimer Day with a free 15-minute dulcimer lesson at One More Page Books! For ages 12 and up.

With three strings and played on the lap, dulcimer is an accessible and beautiful instrument.

No musical experience necessary! Beginners and players with disabilities are especially welcome.

Students must apply hand sanitizer (provided) at the beginning of the lesson. Instructor is happy to mask upon request.

In 15 minutes, you will learn about the structure of a dulcimer and play a simple song three ways (or as many ways as we can get through in fifteen minutes!): 1) melody; 2) melody + chords; 3) melody + chords + ornamental notes. Don’t be scared; it’s not too hard!

Lessons are provided by Lee Swanson (they/them), an Arlington-based dulcimer player who coordinates an online peer support group for hand and limb different musicians (Instagram: @hldmusic_dc).
