This free, public tram tour will focus on the Civil War origins of Arlington National Cemetery.
This tram tour will focus on the Civil War origins of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) in honor of the 160th anniversary of the creation of the Tomb of the Civil War Unknowns in September of 1866. Throughout the tour, ANC historians will explore the new ways that the U.S. military commemorated the unknown dead during that conflict and how ANC became a unique site of remembrance for those men.
– This tour is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required through EventBrite.
– Attendees should meet in the ANC Welcome Center at 9:15 a.m.
– The tour will be held rain or shine—please dress appropriately for the weather!
– Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the tour will include walking stops across uneven terrain.
– Bring water. Bottle-filling stations are located at various locations in the cemetery.
– The tour will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will last approximately two hours. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
