Join us at Glencarlyn Library for an afternoon of music!
According to oral history, the story of the marimba began long ago on the African continent, when people made wooden bars to cross over holes in the ground. They realized that these bars made a sound when struck, so they attached gourds to the undersides of the bars, creating the first xylophone. Nowadays, the marimba is a familiar instrument seen and heard all over the world – in public school classrooms, on the concert stage, and even in movie soundtracks. Darren Lin is excited to present an afternoon performance encompassing the many types of music written for this wonderful instrument. The program will feature works from composers such as Andy Akiho, J.S. Bach, Ivan Trevino, and more!
