APAH’s Queens Court Apartments Receives Innovation Award from Urban Land Institute’s Terwilliger Cen

Arlington, VA (October 31, 2022) – On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, The Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Terwilliger Center for Housing announced the winners of the inaugural Terwilliger Center Award for Innovation in Attainable Housing. APAH’s Queens Court Apartments was one of four developments awarded within the United States or Canada for creating “innovative yet replicable mixed-income and affordable developments that are expanding housing opportunities in their communities.”

Christopher Ptomey, Executive Director of ULI’s Terwilliger Center for Housing said, “Each year, housing costs continue to grow and burden household budgets, and no community is immune to this issue. The 2022 winners are innovative and replicable examples of how ULI members and other housing development stakeholders are leading the charge in addressing the growing home attainability challenges plaguing their communities.”

Upon receiving the award at the ULI Dallas convening, APAH President and CEO, Carmen Romero expressed, “On behalf of the APAH team, I am so pleased to share this award with each of the developers across North America. Thank you to the ULI jury for your vote of confidence in APAH’s work. We provide individualized support to nearly 250 families that call Queens Court home, so we’re pleased to share this recognition with the residents who benefit.” Special thanks are due to APAH’s development partners, including Donahoe Construction, KGD Architecture, KCM Construction Management, Bank of America, Virginia Housing, and Arlington County.

Queens Court Apartments, once a three-story, garden-style complex, was demolished and rebuilt on the same site, which reopened in 2021. The now 12-story, 249-unit affordable community is located in the heart of urban Rosslyn in Arlington, Virginia. Residents have access to two metro transit stations, community and onsite amenities including free or low-cost internet, as well as a state-of-the-art public playground, Rosslyn Highlands.
