ARLINGTON, Va., May 8, 2026 — The U.S. Small Business Administration Washington Metropolitan Area District Office (WMADO) will recognize Good Company Doughnuts & Café as the 2026 National Small Business Week Small Business Person of the Year for Northern Virginia during a special event Friday morning in Arlington, Virginia.
The recognition honors the extraordinary growth and community impact of siblings and co founders Charles Kachadoorian and Kate Murphy, whose company has expanded from a single Arlington café in 2019 into a rapidly growing regional business serving customers throughout the Washington metropolitan area.
Senior SBA leadership attending the event will include James H. Spencer, Regional Administrator for the SBA Mid Atlantic Region, and William Briggs, Deputy Associate Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration. The award presentation and local recognition activities will be led by Larry G. Webb, District Director of the SBA Washington Metropolitan Area District Office.
The event will begin at Good Company Café before continuing to the company’s kiosk location inside Amazon HQ2 in National Landing.
“In just a few short years, Good Company Doughnuts & Café has demonstrated the resilience, innovation, and community commitment that define America’s small business community,” said Webb. “Charles and Kate have built a company that not only achieved remarkable growth, but also remained deeply committed to serving others throughout the region.”
Founded in April 2019, Good Company Doughnuts & Café began with a single café in Arlington’s Ballston neighborhood. Today, the company operates multiple café locations across Washington, DC and Northern Virginia, including locations in Southwest DC, Downtown DC, National Landing, a commercial bakery in Tysons, and a food truck serving the greater region.
The SBA supported the company during multiple stages of growth through SCORE counseling services, Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) assistance during the pandemic, and two SBA 7(a) loans that helped finance a commercial bakery and additional retail expansion.
Since opening, company sales have grown from approximately $500,000 in 2019 to more than $10.5 million in 2025, while employment has expanded from 12 employees to more than 145 team members.
Beyond business success, Good Company and its founders remain active in charitable and veteran focused causes throughout the community. The company has donated more than $15,000 to charitable organizations since 2019 and regularly supports veteran suicide prevention initiatives and military family organizations.
National Small Business Week recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small businesses to the nation’s economy and communities.
