Arlington, Virginia, September 17, 2015– On Tuesday, October 6th the Arlington Community Foundation will host its 19th Annual Community Cup Golf Classic and the 3rd Annual Long & Foster Tennis Open at the Washington Golf and Country Club. Co-chaired by Bart McKenzie of BB&T and Joe McMahon, Jr. of Ventera Corporation, the golf tournament is hoping to break records with close to 90 players comprised of business, civic and community leaders joining forces to raise close to $75,000 to support the Foundation.

Not to be outdone, the tennis committee led by Peggy Richardson of Long & Foster is planning on raising over $20,000 to benefit the Arlington Community Foundation. This year’s goals will be made possible in large part thanks to a $10,000 matching gift from Mr. Boomer Foster of Long & Foster.

Thanks to the extraordinary support of corporate and individual sponsors and the excellent leadership of the co-chairs, the tournaments are on track to be the most successful to date.

The day of friendly competition will kick off with lunch and end with a reception and awards ceremony at the Upper Terrace of Washington Golf, with players usually excitedly sharing stories about their day.

The team to beat this year are last year’s winners of the Community Cup Golf Classic: Glenn Ferguson, Casey Nolan, John Bielski and John Burnett of the Clark Realty Team. On the tennis side, Mrs. Brigid Brakefield joins them as the winner of last year’s Long & Foster Tennis Open.

“The Community Cup Golf Classic and the Tennis Open have become fun and important events for the Foundation,” said Executive Director Wanda Pierce. “Thanks to the generosity of the many people who every year donate their time and resources to make these events such a success, we can continue to operate and make a significant difference in Arlington through our grant and scholarship programs and the management of charitable funds.”

Generous sponsors from the community, including Mr. & Mrs. Bart & Paige McKenzie, Hilton Worldwide, Sands Capital Management, Buck & Associates Real Estate, Hitt Contracting, and Mr. Tim Nichols & Mrs. Daphne Papamichael among others, will make this year’s Community Golf Cup Classic a resounding success.

In addition to the generosity of Long & Foster; Long & Foster agents Peggy Richardson, Karen Kuwana, Jill Burke, Suzanne Simon, Libby Ross and others will make the Tennis Open a successful and exciting event.
