October 1, 2018

Arlington, VA–Bridges to Independence announced today a new contribution from AT&T. A private, nonprofit organization, Bridges is dedicated to serving families experiencing homelessness in the City of Alexandria and Arlington County, VA. AT&T’s support will directly benefit Bridges’ mission by expanding the organization’s Youth Development Program which serves children experiencing homelessness.

“We are very grateful to AT&T for demonstrating this true generosity of spirit and resources,” said Sam Kelly, Bridges’ Chief Executive Officer. “Youth experiencing homelessness have many obstacles ahead of them. AT&T’s support will allow us to serve the children here in our community who need us most.”

“Bridges to Independence works with young people in Arlington who face significant challenges as they prepare for life after high school. Our contribution will help students improve academic performance, develop leadership skills, and explore college and career opportunities,” said Garrett McGuire, regional director for AT&T in Virginia.

McGuire said the $29,969 contribution is part of AT&T Aspire, the company’s initiative to drive student success in school and beyond.

Bridges to Independence’s Youth Development Program aids school-aged children five and older. The program provides vulnerable youth the opportunity to improve academic performance, find outlets for positive self-expression, expand opportunities for future college and/or career success, promote health and wellness, and build skills for adulthood.

About Bridges to Independence:

Bridges to Independence leads individuals and families out of homelessness and into stable, independent futures. They offer a continuum of aid and support for all family members, helping them attain financial security and move forward into self-sufficiency. As homelessness is often episodic, their other priority is working closely with former participants to ensure they are able to remain securely housed and do not fall into homelessness again.
