Dedicated to Service in the Community: The Bonder & Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation Celebrates 20 Years in Historic Green Valley

The Bonder and Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation (BAJCDC) will mark its 20th anniversary of service on Saturday, November 2, 2019 with a fundraiser event themed, “Dancing With The Arlington Stars”.

Since October 1999, the BAJCDC has primarily served residents of the historic Green Valley section of South Arlington. The center provides services such as health care, employment, job services, housing assistance, food bank distribution, and tutoring services. Though the center is located in the heart of Green Valley, the BAJCDC receives and fulfills requests for assistance from residents across Arlington County.

“Arlington County is at a crossroads,” said BAJCDC Board Chair Joyce Harris. “Arlington has increased economic opportunity with the arrival of Amazon, Nestle and other corporations. On the other hand, many residents have been left behind and depend heavily on BAJCDC to help them navigate through things many of us take for granted, such as food and stable housing.

We work on a shoestring budget to help as many folks as we can and we’re hoping that this event will raise even more awareness and support for the work we are doing by partnering with some of the county’s boldest names such as:”

Ø  Katie Cristol, Member, Arlington County Board
Ø  Mary Hynes, Former Member, Arlington County Board
Ø  Monique O’Grady, Member,  Arlington County School Board

Cicely Whitfield, Executive Director of the BAJCDC, stated; “Without BAJCDC, many of our clients would get lost in the system. Over the years, we have been privileged to develop a mutual level of trust and respect with our clients.  We work tirelessly to serve the needs of a very diverse group of people in Arlington County.”
