On Wednesday, October 22, Greenbrier Learning Center (GLC) celebrated its 20th Anniversary with over 150 GLC supporters, community members, local and state government officials and education advocates, at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington.

On this night, guests celebrated the past twenty years of enriching children’s lives in South Arlington. GLC recognized its awardees for the evening: Scheidel Foundation, E*TRADE, Shally Stanley and Julia Stefanelli. These local heroes were celebrated for their proven financial and volunteer support of Greenbrier Learning Center’s mission.

Greenbrier Learning Center was created in response to an identified need for a structured afterschool program in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood. In 1993, the Arlington Community Foundation approached a number of civic organizations looking for partners to address this need – and found support in the Greenbrier Baptist Church and throughout the community. In 1994, Greenbrier Learning Center was founded as an independent nonprofit organization and opened its doors to nine students. Today, 20 years later, Greenbrier Learning Center reaches over 500 students through their public school partnerships and serves 80 students intensively each day after school.

Greenbrier Learning Center is a 501(c)3 organization, and depends on the support of its sponsors and the Arlington community to improve the lives of the city’s most disadvantaged youth.
