The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) today announced the selection of the Long Bridge Rail Partners – a joint venture comprised of Trumbull Corp., Fay, S&B USA Construction, and Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. – as construction partner for the Long Bridge Project-South Package. VPRA separated the Long Bridge Project, a new two-track bridge across the Potomac River, into two procurements, a North Package and a South Package. The North Package was awarded to Skanska/Flatiron Joint Venture in December 2023.
“The selection of Long Bridge Rail Partners completes the team that will build the largest of our Transforming Rail in Virginia projects, which will significantly change the way Virginians travel,” said DJ Stadtler, Executive Director of VPRA. “Our efforts to provide Virginians with expanded passenger rail service would not be possible without the continued support of Governor Youngkin and Secretary of Transportation Miller. We thank them for their support in making our vision a reality.”

Passengers at Reagan National and Dulles International Airports should be prepared for additional crowds and congestion from Friday, January 17, through Tuesday, January 21. The 2025 presidential inauguration is expected to bring an influx of passengers to both Washington, D.C., airports. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend travelers will also contribute to increased passenger loads. Traffic volumes and wait times may be greater than usual during this timeframe.
The Airports Authority is working with airlines and airport partners to make the passenger experience as smooth as possible during the inauguration. With the opening of the Silver Line two years ago serving Dulles International, Metrorail is now available at both airports, providing a convenient travel mode. Other ground transportation options are posted on the Reagan National and Dulles International websites. Additionally, drivers are encouraged to avoid airport roads if they do not have business at the airport.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) joined colleagues in a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Chair of the Senate Finance Committee Mike Crapo (R-ID) urging Senate Republicans to work in a bipartisan way to reduce the deficit and protect the middle class from tax hikes.
This letter comes ahead of the upcoming expirations of the federal debt ceiling and many provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). In the letter, the senators urge Republican leadership to work across the aisle to find reasonable, commonsense solutions that protect hardworking Americans by reducing unnecessary spending and reforming the tax code to protect the middle class.
The George Washington Memorial Parkway has reopened. Drivers should continue to stay alert while driving through the construction zone, observe traffic signs, respect the 40-mph speed limit, expect delays through narrow travel lanes, and plan alternate routes. Due to weather, the traffic configuration will be a single lane through the construction corridor both North and South bound. Vehicles with a gross vehicle weight over 10,000 lbs. are always prohibited from using the parkway.
Thank you for your patience.
In the City of Falls Church, VA: CURBSIDE SERVICES WILL BE DELAYED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
RICHMOND, Va. — A winter storm that blanketed snow and poured sleet and freezing rain on Virginia Sunday night will continue into Tuesday. Motorists need to continue to avoid driving and use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is focused on making roadways safe for travel, and crews can effectively do that when there are less motorists on hazardous roads.
The winter storm arrived in Virginia on Sunday night and continued through Monday morning, with snow in the northern half of the state, and a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow in the southern half of the commonwealth. By late Monday afternoon and evening, some bands of snow will redevelop over central and western Virginia requiring crews to revisit interstates and primary roadways. Additionally, even though crews continue to work to make roadways passable, any moisture remaining on the roadways tonight could cause refreeze with temperatures dropping below freezing.
RICHMOND, VA — Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares today filed an amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court supporting a federal statute addressing the national security and data privacy threats posed by TikTok. The Court is scheduled to hear arguments on the case on January 10, 2025.
In April 2024, the bipartisan Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act became law. The Act prohibits TikTok’s operation in the United States unless its Chinese-owned parent company, ByteDance, sells its stake in the platform. In response, ByteDance and TikTok sued the federal government, but a federal appeals court upheld the law earlier this month, citing national security concerns.

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, and Gov. Glenn Youngkin received a classified briefing at the Capitol from the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice, and the FBI regarding the ongoing investigation into the unexplained drone sightings in Virginia. Following the briefing, they issued the following statement:
“While we appreciate the agencies taking the time to update us on the situation, this briefing was insufficient and unsatisfactory. It has been more than a year since these sightings over key military facilities in Virginia and the lack of answers about the nature, intent, and origin of these incidents is completely unacceptable. The safety of Virginians remains our top priority, and we are determined to continue pressing for additional details as well as greater coordination with state and local officials. We will be staying in close contact with the relevant federal and state agencies to ensure that these concerns are pursued vigorously.”
