WASHINGTON –Today, U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Josh Hawley (R-MO) announced they will introduce the AI-Related Job Impacts Clarity Act. This legislation would require major companies and federal agencies to report AI related layoffs to the Department of Labor to be compiled into a publicly available report.

“Good policy starts with good data. This bipartisan legislation will finally give us a clear picture of AI’s impact on the workforce – what jobs are being eliminated, which workers are being retrained, and where new opportunities are emerging. Armed with this information, we can make sure AI drives opportunity instead of leaving workers behind, ” said Sen. Warner.

RICHMOND, VA – Governor Glenn Youngkin issued Executive Order (EO) 55 to reestablish the Presidential Fitness Test in the Commonwealth’s public school divisions, reinforcing the Commonwealth’s commitment to whole-child wellness and academic excellence.

“By reinstating the Presidential Fitness Test, we’re renewing a proud national tradition that honors the connection between physical wellness and civic readiness,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “When we talk about the future success of the Commonwealth, what we’re really talking about is the health and success of Virginia’s students today. Preparing students for the future requires more than exemplary in-class instruction; we’re helping young people cultivate strength, accountability, and personal responsibility.”

RICHMOND, VA – Governor Glenn Youngkin today announced the results of a large-scale, statewide investigative effort led by the Virginia State Police (VSP) targeting criminal activity associated with vape and electronic cigarette retail establishments across the Commonwealth. The investigation was requested by Governor Youngkin after VSP had observed an alarming increase in criminal activity occurring within and around businesses publicly focused on the sale of electronic cigarettes. In response, VSP initiated a multi-month investigation into these establishments in western Virginia, uncovering extensive illegal drug activity and illegal weapons offenses.

“When illegal drugs, firearms, and organized criminal activity infiltrate retail businesses, frequented by the public—including youth—Virginia will respond with decisive enforcement and unwavering accountability. The results of Operation Magic Dragon demonstrate the exceptional work of our Virginia State Police special agents and their steadfast commitment to keeping our communities safe,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “I want to thank every law enforcement professional who was part of this successful mission to remove illegal drugs from vape shops across Virginia. When we empower law enforcement, Virginia is safer.”

Richmond, Va. — Attorney General Jason Miyares issued an opinion today explaining that the constitutionally required process to amend the Constitution cannot be short-circuited by a last-minute vote of the General Assembly taken during an ongoing election.

To pursue a constitutional amendment, the General Assembly must twice approve a proposed amendment with an intervening election between those approvals. That intervening election ensures that the people of Virginia can hold their representatives accountable for how they vote on a proposed amendment.

RICHMOND, VA — Governor Glenn Youngkin outlined the parameters of the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) initiative, a Commonwealth-supported food assistance effort established by Executive Order 54 under the State of Emergency declared by the Governor due to the Democrat Shutdown in Washington, D.C. In addition, the Governor announced an additional $1 million of state funds would be provided to Virginia food banks in order to offset any temporary disruption as VENA launches at the beginning of November.

“The dereliction of duty on the part of our federal Democrat Senators is creating a crisis for the most needy Virginians. It is an extraordinary step for Virginia to provide food benefits in 7-day increments in November, but we must do so because Congressional Democrats are putting politics above people,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “The Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance effort will be very similar to SNAP– but it is a complex, challenging solution. However, we must ensure our most vulnerable Virginians are not without basic nutrition.”

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) introduced the Federal Employee Civil Relief Act. This legislation would protect federal workers, federal contractor employees, and their families from foreclosures, evictions, and loan defaults during a government shutdown.

“Through no fault of their own, hundreds of thousands of dedicated public servants in Virginia have been furloughed or are currently working without pay. That creates real financial strain for families trying to keep up with mortgages, student loans, and other bills. This legislation will help ensure federal workers and contractors aren’t forced to bear the cost of a shutdown they didn’t cause,” said Sen. Warner.
