(Alexandria, VA) – The American FootGolf League (AFGL) U.S. National Championship will hold a Virginia Regional Qualifier at Pinecrest Golf Course in Alexandria, VA, on Saturday, August 20, beginning at 2 p.m.
The tournament combining soccer and golf is open to anyone who can kick a ball, all levels are welcome, even beginners. Enjoy a swag bag, food and beverage specials and discounted merchandise with entry.
FootGolf, which is played on a traditional golf course, involves the kicking of a soccer ball down the fairway of the course, with the intention, similar to golf, of reaching the hole in as few “strokes” (kicks) as possible. In FootGolf, the hole is increased to 21″ in diameter in order to accommodate a regulation, size 5, soccer ball.
The competition features four different player classifications: Juniors age 12-17, Men age 18-45, Seniors age over 45 and Women age 18 and over.
The top 30% will move on to the Virginia Regional Championship later this year, one of 16 regional championships planned, all of which form the basis of the AFGL U.S. National Championship, which will be held in November at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, CA.
“AFGL has worked for the last four years to create a network of nearly 500 courses in the United States that have FootGolf courses,” said U.S. National Championship Director Julia Barajas, “and the National Championship is the next logical step in the growth of the sport and its integration into the competitive sports landscape.”
