SAN FRANCISCO, APRIL 24, 2017 – Scenic Advisement, the purpose-built investment bank for the private technology sector, has hired Ric Velez, general counsel and strategic in-house legal advisor to leading technology companies, including Lookout, Skype (acquired by Microsoft), and 3PAR (acquired by HP). Ric was an integral part of Google and Skype’s IPO teams, as well as multi-billion dollar sales to Microsoft and HP.
Ric joins Scenic as Managing Director, heading up the investment bank’s private company coverage team, which handles the largest primary and secondary investments into late-stage private technology companies.
“Ric brings 20 years of transaction experience gained working with the world’s largest technology companies. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team,” said Barrett Cohn, co-founder and CEO of Scenic Advisement.
Over his career, Ric has helped companies raise primary capital, prepare for IPO and sale, and counseled employees, founders, executive teams, boards and investors through the issues associated with primary and secondary transactions. In addition to his experience with technology companies, Ric was also a senior associate for the leading technology law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Prior to this, Ric served as a Marine infantryman and a police officer.
“The technology landscape is changing: tech companies are increasingly choosing to grow in the private markets, rather than go public,” said Ric Velez, Scenic’s newly-appointed managing director. “Scenic is the investment bank of choice for late-stage tech companies, and I’m excited to be leveraging my expertise to fulfill their capital needs.”
The Scenic executive team comprises entrepreneurs from the worlds of venture capital, investment banking, and asset management from companies including: BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, Maveron Ventures, Morgan Stanley, and the New York Stock Exchange.
