She once helped an Arlington youth team win a national flag-football championship. And now, Azzi Fudd has a college-level national basketball championship to her credit.

Last Sunday (April 6), the Arlington resident scored 24 points and grabbed five rebounds to help the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team win the Division I NCAA national championship with an 82-59 victory over the University of South Carolina in the 2025 title game.

After struggling at times during the early portion of the boys basketball season, the Arlington Aces played their best as games progressed — and won a championship as a result.

The Arlington Travel Basketball sixth-grade Division 2 squad won the season-ending Fairfax County Youth Basketball League tournament title with a 3-0 record.

With one of the best overall records of any boys Arlington Travel Basketball teams this past winter, the fifth-grade Division 3 Blazers finished with a 16-1 mark and champions of the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League tournament title.

The Blazers finished 3-0 in the tourney, defeating Chantilly Youth Organization, 25-10, in the first round; Lee-Mount Vernon, 42-27, in the semifinals; then Herndon, 41-35, in the finals.

Despite a couple of three-game regular-season losing streaks, the Arlington Elite sixth-grade Division 1 team got hot at the right time to win the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League tournament title.

The Arlington Travel Basketball squad was 3-0 in the tournament, and won its final four games to finish with an 11-6 overall record.

After a standout regular season, the Arlington Travel Basketball League’s Division I fifth-grade Commandos boys team capped its winter campaign by winning a championship in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League playoffs.

The team finished with a 16-1 overall record, including winning its final 14 contests. The top-seed Commandos were 3-0 in the playoffs.

A four-year stretch of success culminated in a big finish for an Arlington girls basketball team.

The Arlington Travel Basketball (ATB) eighth-grade A Division squad won the season-ending Fairfax County Youth Basketball League tournament title with a 3-0 record — each time in convincing fashion.
