Local authorities are warning of possible rush hour traffic impacts as a result of today’s scheduled Occupy NoVA and Occupy D.C. marches to the Key Bridge.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) are advising the public about the possibility of traffic delays during the evening rush hour today (17 Nov) due to a planned demonstration and march by Occupy DC in the vicinity of the Key Bridge and McPherson Square.
The demonstration / march is scheduled to begin at 1430 and continue through the evening rush hour. Potential impacts include the possibility of heavy pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic between the Key Bridge, McPherson Square, and surrounding areas.
Arlington and D.C. police are stationed on either side of the Key Bridge to ensure the march remains orderly.

I have a Springfield M1A if the police would like to borrow it.
The eight laid-off Verizon Wireless guys in their familiar red hoodies constituted 100% of the participants in Ballston this afternoon. I guess the breeze put a damper on their plans. I think the eight guys decided to split cab fare to the Key Bridge to avoid the walk.

Ok, I’ll just ask… what the heck are these things. Is this some weird spam thing.
It’s references to links to this article on other blogs.
looks like they’re trackbacks… basically another site linked to this post and ArlNow’s software automatically converts the abbreviated link into a comment.

They just passed by my office. 26 of them.
kind of interesting how this occupy stuff has taken such a predictable and unproductive turn into disrupting the lives of people that mostly agree w/ the principles behind it. They’re well on their way to joining code-pink, dc statehood, and the far-left enviros on the list of most incompetent political protest movements
The tea party movement was essentially hijacked and co-opted into a broader spectrum, creating a larger, better organized and almost mainstream movement (compared to the early fringe). For worse, they turned their energy into actual results, electing a whole host of incompetent, kool-aid nutjobs to office.
Meanwhile, the OWS movement is increasingly being co-opted by extremely far left groups into a destructive and negative force. Unlike the enviro movement that many of them come from — these folks need to learn to play the game. All this energy, intelligence and hoopla means nothing if you can’t build alliances and expand to accommodate a larger audience — which means not alienating populations inclined to support you by disrupting their personal and professional lives.
If the goal is simply to complain and cause a scene they’re doing a perfect job.
+1, pretty much sums up my thoughts.
Moi aussi
Exactly. They’ve done a great job of changing the debate, but if they don’t get smart like the teabaggers did, they’ll have nothing to show for it.
drax,
How exactly has the debate changed? The tea partiers had issues with unemployment and debt. Granted, the OWS, bcz they run younger and more liberal, have issues with STUDENT debt and money inequality, but I am pretty sure the overarching issues from each camp are essentially the same.
I agree that the OWS thing is getting way off track. They should have organized and formed a platform at least a month ago. In a situation like this, annoying the public (who actually, for the most part, agree with the basic tenants of OWS) is not the answer.
TeaBaggers were all bankrolled by the Koch brothers and had Fox News to provide 24*7 publicity though…
and what exactly has george soros and MSNBC been doing for the Occupy crowd?
nothing
If they block me crossing the Key Bridge into VA and getting home tonight, I contest that running someone over is _totally_ justified!
Aren’t you a doctor? What about that Hippocratic oath
Um….well darn.
Actually, I suppose I’d help them after I hit them
Make sure you do it on the Virginia side. You have a chance of winning based on their contributory negligence of walking in the street. Also, fun fact, if you get hurt while rescuing them and win on contrib, you might be able to recover money from the protester himself. Ah, Virginia….
3:00 pm
The “mob” is down to 24 people here in Courthouse, which is slightly less than the number of people in line at Starbucks this morning.
Viva La Revolucion!

They just passed through Rosslyn, crossing lee highway now.
Correction, they are just sitting at the corner for now, not crossing.
Protesting is hard.

Scott, sure you’re addressing this, but might want to disable trackbacks temporarily. something funky is going on.
Agreed, not only are the track-backs funky, but they’re getting annoying too. Even more so then those pesky Occupy-Whatever protesters — which I really did not think possible!
just saw this on twitter:

Apparently OccupyNova is a bust–12 people in red jackets on Key Bridge. #OccupyNova #OccupyDC
even the hippies and homeless here have jobs…
The homeless have homes here. Let’s just get that out there.
Let me rephrase that. The Homeless here have homes. That’s a lot of h’s.
