All in all it was a relatively quiet week for the Arlington Police Department. As if to illustrate the point, here’s one particularly small town-ish item that made it onto the weekly crime report.
BURGLARY 07/13/10, 1800 block of N. Culpeper Street. Between midnight on July 1, and 8 am on July 13, an unknown person entered a closed porch and moved items. There are no known suspects.

SEXUAL BATTERY 07/13/10, N. Quincy Street at Washington Boulevard. On July 13 at 9:30 pm, a woman was running when an unknown man smacked her on her buttocks. The suspect was described as a white Hispanic male, short and stocky, in his mid to late 20’s. He was wearing a t-shirt, long shorts, a dark colored ball cap, and carried a black backpack.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING 07/11/10, 1300 block of S. Thomas Street. On July 11 at 3 am, a man broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment, assaulted her and her current boyfriend, and threatened her with a knife. The suspect then fled.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING 07/08/10, 2700 block of S. Oakland Street. On July 8 at 4:45 pm, a man assaulted a mechanic and attempted to run him over with a vehicle. The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male in his mid-twenties, 5’6″ and 175 lbs. He was wearing a striped yellow t-shirt and jeans.
ROBBERY 07/07/10, 1300 block of S. Joyce Street. On July 7 at 8:45 pm, an unknown man approached a female. He demanded a ring she was wearing and displayed some type of knife before fleeing on foot. The suspect is described as an African American male, 25 years old, and 5’7″ with a thin build. He was wearing a blue and white striped polo shirt and jeans.
ROBBERY-ARREST 07/08/10, 4500 block of Four Mile Run Drive. On June 29 at 6 pm, a known subject stole a man’s phone. The suspect was located and charged on July 8, 2010. Marlyn Franco, 20, of Arlington, was charged with Robbery. He was held without bond.
ASSAULT AND BATTERY 07/10/10, 1100 block of S. Wakefield Street. On July 10 at 7:45 pm, a man walked out of his apartment and was assaulted by an unknown subject for no apparent reason. The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male, 6′ and 175 lbs. He was wearing a blue soccer jersey and yellow shorts.
ASSAULT 07/09/10, 1000 block of N. Fillmore Street. On July 9 at 4:30 pm, an unknown male spit on another male during an argument. The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-50’s, 5’8″ and 200 lbs. he was wearing a light colored t-shirt and jeans.
BURGLARY-ARREST 07/08/10, 1100 block of N. Vernon Street. On July 8 3 am, a man was found attempting to steal a bicycle from an attached garage. Timothy Roberson, 39, of Washington D.C., was charged with burglary. He was held without bond.
BURGLARY 07/10/10, 4000 block of Washington Boulevard. Between 4:45 pm on July 9 and 6 pm on July 10, an unknown person forcibly entered an apartment complex. No items were taken, but the door was damaged during the entry. There are no known suspects.
UNLAWFUL ENTRY-ARREST 07/10/10, 3700 block of Columbia Pike. On July 10 at 2:20 am, a man broke into his ex-girlfriends apartment by smashing a window. Police located him at the scene. Yassine Bencherki, 21, of Arlington, was charged with unlawful Entry and Destruction of Property. He was held on a $5,000 bond.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 07/08/10, 1900 block of Wilson Boulevard. Between 6 pm on July 7, and 8:45 am on July 8, an unknown person broke into an office suite and stole several computers. There is no suspect description.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 07/10/10, 4000 block of Old Dominion Drive. Between 11 pm on July 9, and 6 am on July 10, an unknown subject broke into a gas station and stole currency. There is no suspect description.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 07/12/10, 1500 block of Jefferson Davis Highway. Between 3 pm on July 9, and 7 am on July 12, an unknown subject entered several locked rooms in a building and stole a television. There is no suspect description.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY 07/13/10, 6900 block of Fairfax Drive. Between 5 pm on July 12, and 7:30 am on July 13, an unknown subject broke into an automotive business. There are no known suspects.
LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES) 07/10/10, 2500-2600 blocks of S. Lynn Street. Between 10:30 pm on July 9 and 7 am on July 10, an unknown subject broke into two vehicles in the same area by smashing the rear window. Various items were stolen from one car. There is no suspect description.

The 44th Leeway Overlee Community Day and Yard
Sale will be along the John Marshall Drive/Ohio Street greenway on
Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The community will be out in
force to exchange information and greetings, sell unneeded household
items, and pick up a few bargains.
About 100 families set up tables for the festivities, which take
place along the six-block stretch of the greenway from near Langston
Blvd. to Washington Blvd. Attendance is free, but
a $10 fee will be collected from individuals and families selling
household items during the event. Ensure that all goods and rubbish are
removed from the greenway by 1 p.m. Leave dogs at home.
