(Updated at 1:50 p.m.) A two car collision sent a pedestrian to the hospital and knocked down a light pole near the entrance to I-66 on Fairfax Drive.

The crash apparently happened while one car was turning into the entrance to the Holiday Inn. The accident caused one car to slam into the light post, which fell over and hit a woman, a bystander told ARLnow.com. The woman was taken to the hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A moped that was chained to the light post was also damaged.

Well, the last two posts explain what all the sirens are about over here. That’s terrible. I hope no one is seriously injured.

I walked past this at about 1:00. It looked like there was a small motorcycle or scooter on the ground next to the light pole. I saw a helmet on the ground, too.

Traffic was backed up on eastbound Fairfax Dr out onto 66E. The left lane of Fairfax was already blocked for roadwork.

I looks like the moped was locked to the pole. Sounds like an insurance nightmare.

It’ll be a scenario in those “Farmer’s University” commercials.

I’m wondering when someone will clean up the broken glass that is on the sidewalk.

    • Deb, can I finish my lunch first?

  • Lou

The mess is still there except the moped has been removed.

I don’t believe the pedestrian was hit by the pole. The pedestrian was in the street. She must have been hit by one of the cars and she was not moving. Glad to see her injuries were “not life threatening”, hope it’s true. Cars in that lane go way too fast, coming off 66.
