Morning Poll: Football Roll Call

by ARLnow.com October 18, 2010 at 7:01 am 1,512 25 Comments

An interception ended Donovan McNabb and the Redskins’ valiant comeback attempt against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts last night on Sunday Night Football.

Such a loss may portend a day of fatigue and depression in, say, Green Bay. But Arlington is a somewhat transient town. How many local football fans are truly mourning this morning? And how many are loyal to other teams?

  • Potatoman

I’m a big Redskins fan and an Arlington native but my heart isn’t breaking right now…after watching so many years of terrible, TERRIBLE redskins games I am happy when they have an entertaining, close game.

    • Arlingtonian

+1. They are playing better with the new coach.

    • NomNom

I have to agree with Potatoman. I am not a native but my parents are from the area so I have grown up a Skins fan. I was relieved to see we did so well against a potent offense, but I would have been happy had the Skins Defense caught one of the four possible picks thrown by Manning. I am not a big fan of Snyder but I despised Vinny Cerrato and am glad he was let go.

  • Lou

Yeah, not enough choices. That was not a hard loss to take. I figured if we could take one from either GB or Indy it would be a good sign. Schedule gets easier from here on.

  • How about a third option: “Don’t care.” Don’t root for the Skins, don’t root for a different team. Don’t care.

    • Katie

I agree. Bunch of hype, noise, and advertising.

  • SportSnooze

Add my vote to “Don’t Care.” Sports has own cable channels and section in newspaper. Keep it there. If ArlNow is going to be hyper-local keep it local. If you choose to add sports keep it to local schools and leagues. I’m sure they would appreciate the attention often given to pro and college teams. Not sure why the Redskins deserve so much attention when its owner continues to abuse the fans.

    • DT

You could um, I don’t know, maybe ugh, not read it.

  • rob42

I never answer your polls because the options given are too restrictive, i.e. neither choice applies to me.

How about adding a third option: No, I don’t give a f— about the NFL?

    • charlie

agreed. over paid. monopolistic. loser owners.
      bring on soccer!!

  • NPGMBR

I’m a New Orleans native and have lived in Arlington since 95. I was a Saints fan when they sucked and continue to be a fan now. Arlington is my home now but I won’t let go of my home town time unless Arlington or NOVA gets a team and I’m sure thats not likely to happen during my lifetime.

    • Carmen

Same here. I am not heartbroken because even though I live in Arlington, I am from Indianapolis. I root for the Colts through thick and thin. I always have and I always will.

    • Jamie

Geaux Saints! Glad to see another fan in Arlington – my family is from Hammond, LA. I root for the Redskins as well since they’re the local team and since the teams don’t often meet.

  • Skeptical

What Blueloom, Katie, rob42 and Sportsnooze said.

Anyone who feels real emotions about whether a bunch of steroid-saturated louts win a fight over a ball has mental problems.

    • PikeHoo

It’s early, but I think you need a nap.

      • rob42

I don’t know about Skeptical, but I was certainly sleep deprived and cranky this morning.

  • Lou

Bunch of crabby mccrabs on here today.

  • PikeHoo

I’ve been a Skins fan since childhood, but Dan Snyder has been working overtime on getting me to not want to cheer for them.

    • Frenchy B

That about sums it up for me.

  • Cool Kid

I’m even cooler than you. I’ve never even heard of sports or TV.

  • Katie

    Alright, if I must…Go Iggles!

    I like the green/white uniforms.

  • JimPB

This morning I listened with interest to WTOP’s report on the game. I am committed to “Fire Dan Sndyer.” He’s been a whiz at milking the fans financially while messing up the team. Fire him!

What does it mean to fire someone? It primarily means that you no longer pay that person. So I don’t go to games, don’t watch or listen to them, and don’t listen to Snyder’s sports network. Cut off Snyder’s direct and indirect pay deep and long enough, and he will be “fired” (financially forced to sell the team).

  • NovaBrian

I concur with Katie above-go Iggles, or Eagles. Perhaps, the missing 3rd choice in the poll should be: “Eagles phan, happy to see McNabb throw an interception to end the game.”

  • Rover

I was a die hard Skins fan when I was a child. Now, I could care less. As long as Dan Snyder owns the team I don’t care what they do. In fact, the NFL quite bores me now. There just isn’t enough action. I’ll take soccer, hockey, or any other game that doesn’t stop for 45 seconds between 6 seconds of action.

  • TGEoA

All of you non Skins fans can suck it.
