Morning Poll: Last-Minute Holiday Shopping

by ARLnow.com December 22, 2010 at 7:30 am 1,530 24 Comments

Forget Black Friday. The next two or three days will likely be some of the busiest shopping days of the year, as procrastinators head to the malls to pick up last-minute Christmas gifts.

Where in Arlington, if anywhere, are you planning on going shopping before Dec. 25? You can select more than one answer.

  • Arlington Native

It’s still early in the poll, but why am I not surprised Ballston Mall has zero votes?

And yes, I’m one of those procrastinators who hasn’t yet finished their shopping!

  • Katie

No Tyson’s? No U Street, etc.? We may live in Arlington but do leave it.

    • charlie

you are not allowed to leave. spend your money here or else. 🙂

      • jan

        yes!

    • mehoo

This is ARLNOW.com. Go to TYSNOW.com or USTNOW.com if you want those options.

      • SoArlRes

Hahaha. Good snark, as usual. 🙂

        • mehoo

          All in fun snark.

    • R.Griffon

Have you seen Tyson’s traffic? Maybe after the new line is in…

  • G

I go to Bailey’s crossroads usually

  • charlie

I love AS SEEN ON TV store in Ballston. I think it is still there. It is great for last minute gag gifts. maybe I’ll get something for ARLNOW….

  • Lou

I was in Ballston last night picking up last minute stuff. I always make a point to check the upper levels for any new stores that tend to pop up just to service clueless procrastinators, like me. The Macy’s saved me, with a stepped-up selection of those tables of random gifts. I was in the Macy’s at Pentagon City over the weekend, and Ballston definitely had the better selection of stuff like that.

    • mehoo

      Thanks, the Lou.

  • Sheila

My family and friends stopped exchanging gifts years ago. It’s very liberating.

    • Chad

Hahaha, hopefully consumers don’t think like this as we need more spending/demand right now! None the less, I can see how that would be liberating.

    • PigPen

Reminds me of how someone that doesn’t watch TV has to be sure to let everyone know about it. Liberating for you maybe, but our family has a blast with it. You’re not one of those hipsters are you?

  • TGEoA

    Amazon prime FTW

    • LVGuy

First and only time I’ll agree with you!

  • jen

Ballston’s Macy’s is the only one in the area to carry furniture. I hadn’t stepped foot in the mall in years…but saw a couch online for 50% off at Macys.com..and was able to see it/try it out in person and order thru the store.

Georgetown Park is another ghost-town mall.

    • Clarendip

Which is too bad really, because there are good stores there. Ridiculous parking rates.

  • DT

Ballston really needs a makeover. Pentagon City is okay if you don’t mind tourists and gangs of kids off the blue line. I still go to Tysons.

  • Cranky Crankypants

maybe if we had a decent liquor store in town, I would shop here. Instead, I cross the river into DC.

    • mehoo

Liquor for the kids for Christmas again, huh?

  • mehoo

Who actually shops in a mall any more?
