Update at 4:20 p.m. — It appears that eastbound I-66 has reopened at the accident scene.

An overturned vehicle is tying up traffic on westbound eastbound I-66.

A car flipped on its roof in the eastbound lanes near Great Falls Street just before 2:30 this afternoon. Initial reports suggest paramedics are evaluating at least one patient. Firefighters are working to reach another person who’s trapped in the vehicle.

Eastbound traffic is at a standstill just past the Beltway.

Probably didn’t see the lane shift and over-corrected, also why is the extra lane taking years to construct when they can put up a new metro pylon every day?

    • CrystalMikey

Yeah, I was driving through Tysons over the weekend and was amazed how far along the Metro construction is!

I drive through there a few times a week. It is indeed amazing progress.

Seeing as it’s now being reported as eastbound, I’d bet it had something to do with the flyover ramp from the Dulles connector road.

      • JamesE

My theory is now ruined, but my point still stands about the lane construction time.

        • Lou

They’re probably dragging out the construction just to grind Zimmerman’s gears.

Because the Metro track they are building isn’t already in use like I-66.

  • That was a really bad wreck.
