by ARLnow.com April 12, 2011 at 8:50 am 2,304 30 Comments

The Capitals are again headed for the playoffs, and to celebrate the team is holding a pep rally at its practice facility in Ballston.

From 10:00 this morning until the end of the team’s practice session, fans are encouraged to come to the Kettler Capitals Iceplex (627 North Glebe Road) to “Rock the Red” and show their support. Caps announcer Wes Johnson will be there to pump up the crowd, and 106.7 The Fan’s Mike Wise Show will be broadcasting live.

There will also be t-shirt giveaways and an appearance by Slapshot, the team’s avian mascot.

The Capitals will face off against the New York Rangers tomorrow at Verizon Center, the first game of the first round of the playoffs.

    Mike Wise? No thanks.

    • I’d rather listen to him that Lavar and that idiot Dukes.

      • yeah, they suck too. John Thompson ftw

        • MC 703

John Thompson and LaVar are almost unlistentoable. Doc and Chuck Sapienza are all that keep the John Thompson Show from being a mumblin stumblin 3 hour debacle.

Chad Dukes was great on Big O and Dukes. Sports talk radio may not be his forte.

Sports Reporters and Sports Fix on 980 are the best shows on local radio.

    • F NY

      • CrystalMikey

        +1 trillion

  • JamesE

they should have a pep rally after the first round

  • Southeast Ben

    C – A – P – S, CAPS, CAPS, CAPS, CAPS!

  • Arlwhenever

Instead of being a run and gun, let’s finish first in the regular season standings team, the Caps have played all year like they are preparing for the playoffs. That’s a winning strategy, but no guarantee, as it can always be derailed by outstanding opposition goaltending. The Capitals are now a mature team that needs to step up its character quotient. If they can, it will be a fascinating ride.

    • Glebe Roader

For once, why can’t the Caps be the team with outstanding playoff goaltending? Aren’t we tired of hearing how the other team’s goalie “stood on his head” to beat the Caps?

      • MC 703

Varly stood on his head and delivered two shutouts against NY in 09 after Jose crapped himself. Hope we don’t find ourselves in a position where he has to come off the bench again.

    LET’S GO PENS!!!!

    • CrystalMikey

I repeat again, GET THAT MESS OUTTA HERE!

      • Neighbor

        Messy with many…Stanley Cups. ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • R0bespierre

You didn’t win any of them. You just watched. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Das Joint

At least its not the ultimate self involved BS artists, Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon. We have the worst Sports media in the nation, Wise included. Go Caps!

The only reason I wish the economy in DC wasn’t booming… the infiltration of Philthy, Pitt and NY fans. Why does everyone from Penn State HAVE to move to DC?

Win the Cup this year boys!

    • MC 703

I can’t recall Wilbon ever doing a daily radio show with TK locally.

Also quite tired of dealing with PA and NY ex pats. Most invade Fed Ex and Nats Park with malice and enjoy being all around nasty to local fans. I can’t leave work early enough to make the Nats / Phillies game this week but after terrible experiences with Phillies fans at every Philly game last year I’m not sure it’s even worth it.

  • Cat

I really don’t get the logic in doing a 10am pep rally. Don’t organizers realize that fans have JOBS and are AT WORK 10am? Annoying.

    • MC 703

We’re at home tomorrow night. I don’t know why they couldn’t have done the pep rally this evening.

      • Cranky Crankypants

It’s part of the normal practice time.

        • MC 703

I know they practice in the AM. I’ve been to Kettler a few times to watch. Just wish they’d hold the event at a time when more fans won’t be stuck at work out in Ashburn like me.

    • Westover

They usually still get a big crowd. If you were a real fan, you would find it worth taking the leave. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • MC 703

Being a “real” fan has nothing to do with taking PTO to go to a 10am rally.

        • V Dizzle

Being a “real” fan means you’d eat a hockey puck, only so that you could feel again. …going to a 10am rally is pretty hardcore as well.

    • R0bespierre

They wanna round up a few pre-game MILFs for the team.

  • Ron Burgundy

    Stay Stanley Cup winless, Washington.
