A Note About Our Newsletter

by ARLnow.com August 29, 2011 at 4:34 pm 2,174 12 Comments

If you were expecting to get our daily ARLnow.com Afternoon Update email newsletter, rest assured that it is still coming, but a bit later than usual.

We’ve temporarily adjusted the timing of the mass mailing in order to protect against a spike in web traffic. With more than 3,000 email subscribers, many of whom click on articles simultaneously after receiving the newsletter, we’ve had difficulty keeping our server stable during the otherwise high-traffic time between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.

That’s all going to change once we upgrade to a bigger, badder server, but the transition is expected to happen no sooner than this coming weekend. In the meantime, please excuse the later emails and the technical explanation. As always, feel free to share any thoughts in the comments section.

This news-site rocks! I can totally do without the WaPo now. Post Local sucks anyway, WaPo is heavily Maryland centered. Just take a look at the “Where We Live” section, 9 out of 10 times its in Maryland.

I agree, this is a great news report. I always go to it to find out what is happening in Arlington – not MD (like the Post).

      Keep it up!

Agreed! Great site – much better Arlington coverage than the Post. Definitely keep it up.

  • From the only GOP in Arlington

I agree as well! When my house shook, I went to your site first! So take your time…..you’re fabulous!

This is not comparable to Washington Post. Pretty good but this is junior varsity compared to the Post

Pablo: you could not be more wrong. ArlNow has become THE site in Arlington for local news reporting. I don’t know what your definition of JV is but the WaPo has definitely abandoned Arlington and much of NVa. The size of their NVa office has shrunk, the size of the Metro section has shrunk and very often most of the Metro news is comprised of: human interest stories about DC or PGCo, obituaries, and background stories on the inner workings of the federal government.

I don’t know, but maybe you have some personal connection to the WaPo. As for ArlNow, its great and provides extensive Arlington reporting especially for the small staff it has. About the only think I think it actually needs is a good marketing/sales person to go out and pound the streets to wrap up all the local marketing thereby increasing revenue and paying for more things like huge servers (or maybe just one good Apple server) and some more reporting staff.

What more could the ArlNow need? Seriously, it even has the funnies covered. Have you read some of the comments people post!?

But the Post NEVER covers Arlington news. If you want Arlington updates, this is your place.

The server definitely needs more gigastuff and megacrap. Obviously.

  • It could be said that an overloaded server is a good problem to have, in the sense that it shows that we have a large, engaged readership.

Thank you for the kind words, everybody.

No doubt since I’ve discovered ARLNow Its been on my daily reading list because it gives me news about my County. As others have said; while the Post is a great paper, it just doesn’t deliver enough news pertaining to Arlington. Keep up the good work.

Keep it real! I check you every morning and afternoon. You are my breakfast cereal that brightens my day on a evil Monday. Because of you, I am miss Arlington know-it-all.

I think we should have a party in your honor. Whitlows anyone?

ARLNow is much better than the Post in covering Arlington news and events. This is a very informative web site. Keep up the great work!
