The Arlington County Civic Federation’s Candidate Night is one week away.

General election candidates for the 30th, 31st and 32nd Virginia State Senate races and the 45th, 47th, 48th and 49th House of Delegates races will take questions from Civic Federation delegates.

The forum will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, at the Washington-Lee High School auditorium (1300 N. Quincy Street). The auditorium is taking the place of the normal venue, Virginia Hospital’s Hazel Conference Center, which is being renovated.

Another Candidate Night will be held on Oct. 4 for the candidates for County Board, County Treasurer, Commissioner of Revenue, Sheriff, Commonwealth’s Attorney and Virginia School Board.

Make sure all the dog poop is clean on the sidewalks when this take place. Lol

Right. No dirty dog poop! Clean dog poop only!

yet another group trying to be relevant? who are they?

I look forward to learning where Caren Merrick stands on the issues. She can send out pretty mail pieces but where does she stand on supporting our public schools, protecting reproductive rights and public transit? She seems to be running on a ticket with Barbara Comstock in Fairfax – but would she cast the same tea party votes as Comstock?

    • Another N. Arlington Voter

We can only hope she does – having someone vote for fiscal restraint would be a breath of fresh air in Northern Virginia. Public transit is less of an issue when local and federal governments choose to re-locate their offices away from major transit. And when half of our budget is spent on public schools with no appreciable difference in scores with counties that spend far less per pupil, I would hope that she would be in favor of alternatives other than the status quo.

Her first mail piece (http://bluevirginia.us/diary/4753/republicans-go-all-out-for-caren-merrick-in-the-31st-senate-district) is certainly glossy, but you’re right, it doesn’t really tell us anything about where she stands on the issues. In fact, it doesn’t even mention the word “Republican” anywhere, except on the back page in small print, where it says “paid for and authorized by…” Apparently, Merrick is running a stealth campaign, but an extremely well funded stealth campaign…

Imagine if Politico got to take our free advertisements in the Washington Post? The Internet is an interesting thing sometimes…

In these lean economic times, you’d think Arlnow would wise up eventually and start charging BV a fair market rate for advertising space.

    • charlie
