Teen Girl Groped on Way Home from Yorktown HS

A 15-year-old girl was walking home from Yorktown High School yesterday afternoon when a man reportedly “ran up to her and grabbed her inappropriately.”

Last night, Yorktown principal Raymond Pasi sent the following email to parents regarding the incident.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

At approximately 3:45 pm today a 15 year old student from Yorktown was approached by a man who ran up to her and grabbed her inappropriately and then ran away. The incident occurred in the 2600 block of Florida Street. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20’s, wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

The student reported the incident to her father and he contacted the school administration. Yorktown staff immediately contacted the police who are now investigating.

We are grateful that the student was not physically injured.

The is a good time for all of us to remind students about some important steps they should always take to ensure their continued safety when they are out in the community, and even take time to role play possible situations with them.

Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Raymond Pasi, Principal
Yorktown High School

WTF is with all the inappropriate grabbing [email protected] already? Just once I’d like to read an article headline that goes something like: “Girl Shoots Man in the Nuts with Taser after Being Inappropriately Touched.”

  • YoungLiver

We all have a responsibility to keep our community safe. See something, say something.

Good on this young lady to speak up. Very brave.

Yorktown HS is more or less in a residential neighborhood — a few blocks from Lee highway. About the only issue would be the construction at the school. Think it would be time for a “line-up” and have them all walk the plank! I’m glad the girl is safe and will remind my daughter about the event and to be aware of her sourndings!

    • Don Ager

As if, Rick, residents in the neighborhood are all above suspicion and the neighborhood is a walled off gated community and only ones allowed in at that time are blue-collared construction workers?

This young lady is my daughter. @Zoning Victim, believe me, I would like nothing better than to taser this man. He attacked her so fast that she had no time to react, and then ran up N. 26th Street before she had a chance to do anything. He also made inappropriate comments as he (roughly) grabbed her.

Please keep an eye out for this guy. He had very close-cropped hair, which was left out of the description above.

Yorktown and the police responded instantly, and were wonderful.

Sorry this happened to her, and let me add my “way to go” to her for being brave and speaking up. Hope they bust this scumbag.

Does she recall if he had any kind of accent that would help ID him?

I wonder if the 7-11 down the street might have him on the security cam. Or the Harris Teeter.

      • CW

Yes, of course, he MUST have had an accent..I see what you did there…

        • Harkin

Ummm, a New England accent, a southern accent, a British accent – all can be helpful information and don’t convey anything about race. The more you know, the more people you can rule out, so it’s a relevant question.

        • Rosa

          CW,
Why are you being so so aggressive towards other posters who are just trying to be helpful and get tips for others.

          • I’m not saying CW is one of these, but there are people here who try to make everything racial. It is ridiculous.

          • CW

Aggressive? Gosh. I was half-jokingly pointing out that the poster went straight for the “accent” part, which is generally pretty well correlated to not speaking English as a first language, as opposed to just asking “were there any other unique distinguishing features?”

Momof2 stated “He also made inappropriate comments as he (roughly) grabbed her.” This was not part of the ARLNow report nor the principal’s statement, so it was added after the initial post. Given that up to that point (12:37pm) nobody here even knew he spoke anything to the victim, the new information SHOULD provoke questions (e.g., “how did he speak”) – one aspect of which would be “was there an accent”? Jumping all over someone like you did isn’t very helpful either – and if that’s your idea of half-joking (where you actually have to explain that it’s a joke) you might just as well post under mehoo/dynaroo/drax/samsonite instead of your registered name. The racial vitriol in the comments on here has been off the charts this week from all sides – no need to add more to it if the posters didn’t explicitly state it. And if they DO explicitly state it, just chalk it up to ignorance and move on.

Glad that you all reported this unforturnate incident. Far too many such incidents (and worse) are not reported. What’s known can be addressed.

Sexual agression is a BIG problem. I recall professional women remarking on the frequency of sexual comments that were directed toward them in NW DC during the day. I kind of questioned the frequency. They graciously provided me the opportunity to do a tally. I followed them down Connecticiut, far enough behind so that I would not be perceived to be with them but close enough to hear what was being said by (and presumably would be said to) them. They were right.

I’d like to hold him for you while you do a lot more than taser him. Sorry that happened, it sounds like you raised a really smart and brave daughter. I really hope they find this guy, because people who commit brazen acts like this typically escalate their behavior until they are caught. It’s frustrating that this seems to be happening more frequently in Arlington.

  • Lala

Haven’t there been a couple of incidents like this around Yorktown in the past 6 months? Maybe it’s the same guy?

  • Momof2

The man in question was white, and had no accent.

  • Hmmmm

Black shirt and black shorts? Sounds like a goth kid.

    • Lou

      Goth track team.

  • Steamboat Willie

Part of me would love to catch one of these perverts in the act. That’s the part of me that has a daughter, and the perv would be calling for the police.

Just this afternoon someone exposed himself to a “20 year old” student at H-B Woodlawn. I don’t know who the 20 year olds are – but probably either developmentally disabled or English language learner. (My 13 year old goes there – and she walks home – good thing she’s a fast runner).
