Now’s your chance to make sure your favorite businesses in Arlington get recognized. Voting for the 2011 ABBIE awards begins today.

Nominations for Arlington’s Best Business Awards came via online voting from September 21-October 12. They’ve been narrowed down to the to the top five (and in one case six) finalists in each of 15 categories.

ABBIE winners will receive recognition from the Arlington County Board, a year’s worth of promotion in various local publications, and special placement in the Arlington County Visitors Guide and Map.

Voting runs through November 16. To cast your vote click here.

  • John Fontain

Wish i could have voted for Goody’s pizza for best customer service.

  • KalashniKEV

Best Bargain = Pho 75 (not listed)

    • Bluemontsince1961

      Pho 75 is good!

    • EGeezy

Just voted and made the comment that Pho 75 should be included in Best Bargain. Love it!

  • Ryan

Please consider Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium for Best Community Based Non-Profit. It was a huge undertaking this year with amazing success.

    • Larchmont

      Done

  • GreaterClarendon

    Definitely needs more categories, i.e.

    Best Draft Beer Selection
    Best Wine Bar
    Best Cougar Bar
    Best Beer / Wine Store
    Best Carryout Food
    Best Gyro (CAVA)
    Best Kids Park
Best Married couple date night restaurant/bar
    Best Single Persons bar

    Just to name a few.

    • John Fontain

      “Best Kids Park”

They are ‘business’ awards, thus the ‘ABB’ in ABBIE (Arlington’s Best Business).

      • Chris Slatt

Which is, of course, why the Arlington Library, Arts Center and Nature Centers are all in the running for “best place to learn something new”…

    • KalashniKEV

      Best Draft Beer Selection G-Hut
      Best Wine Bar Don’t care
      Best Cougar Bar ARB&G
Best Beer / Wine Store Whole Foods
      Best Carryout Food TNR
      Best Gyro E-W Grill
      Best Kids Park Don’t care
Best Married couple date night restaurant/bar Lyon Hall
Best Single Persons bar Lib Tav

      • CW

While I agree with 100% of your responses, they also point out that, amazingly, despite all the development, the R-B corridor still lacks some things, such as a good dedicated wine/beer store (I’m talking LOTS of selection and not the same old crap), a REAL beer bar (ATR FAIL) other than GH, and true higher-end restaurants minus eventide (I wouldn’t take a date to Lyon Hall unless she didn’t mind being deafened and crowded in with strangers in their cafeteria-style tables).

        • JamesE

I take all my first dates to Arby’s. One day when I get a second date that will be the woman I marry.

      • CrystalMikey

        Best Beer store: Westover Market

      • JamesE

Rustico’s draft selection is pretty damn good, I haven’t been to Galaxy Hut in a long time so I cannot comment on that.

        • CW

Ahh, was forgetting Rustico, you win.

  • DarkHeart

    No Sports Bar Category?

  • JamesE

    Did Circa pay them off?

    • KalashniKEV

I said the same thing about Delhi Daba…

  • jinushaun

Wish I could’ve partaken in the initial vote in Sept. Didn’t know about it. Not really feeling the finalists.

    • John Fontain

Same here. I would have voted for Crystal City Restaurant for Best Family Friendly Restaurant.

      • Carl

Me and “my boys” love going there.

  • CW

Does anyone else look down upon official, funded organizations when they use SurveyMonkey?

    • CW

      Also, a couple thoughts:

      1) Arlington Nutrition Corner for best customer service? I’ll have to stop in sometime. I always figured they would be just like “JUIICCCEEEEEE *eats baby*”.

      2) At some point, Whitlow’s is going to lose its “family friendly” designation in an incident involving young childreen and beer vomit.

      3) Somehow the editors forgot to get Circa into the nonprofit and pet care categories…must have been a typo; is there a spot for write-ins?

    • bred

What’s wrong with SurveyMonkey? It is one of the cheaper programs to use for research studies.

  • KalashniKEV

The choices are dumb. There should be write-ins. I want to cancel my survey!

    • Chris Slatt

I’m really feeling like the nomination period wasn’t advertised well enough this year, the nominees are significantly worse than years past.

      Seriously? Arlington Nutrition Center?

No Boccato Gelato in the best desserts section?

      Oy.

      • KalashniKEV

“No Boccato Gelato in the best desserts section?”

AH! I forgot about that one and couldn’t see the survey anymore… I meant to include that with my Pho 75 comment.

  • TuesdaysChild

Can we have a “Cr-abbies” for worst aspects of arlington?

    • Red-Headed Step-Child

Artisfail and the trolley would win in a landslide.

    • KalashniKEV

HA… ARLnow should do that one. I nominate Northside Social for this one:

“Excuse me, sir? You can’t read a book and drink your coffee in this large empty upstairs room… we’re having a wine event and someone might show up. Take it outside in the FREEZING cold, since all the seats are taken on the ground floor.”

  • North & South

I went to vote and was so bored by all of the nominees. I’m not overly impressed with any of them! I abstain.

  • Nitha

I cant vote without signing up for that survey monkey thing?! What the heck. I guess I not voting. Am I doing something wrong?
