New Mobile Site Launched

(Updated at 2:55 p.m.) Smartphone users who want a browsing experience optimized for their touchscreen device finally have a full-featured mobile option when reading ARLnow.com on the go.

ARLnow.com has a new mobile website this morning, and it can currently be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of the page on your mobile browser and selecting “Switch to Mobile Version.” You can switch back to the full website, if you like, by scrolling to the bottom of the mobile site and selecting “off” under “Mobile Theme.”

As part of the transition to the new mobile site, it was necessary to turn off image uploading in the comments section. We regret that there’s currently no way to allow comment images and the mobile website to co-exist. Images can still be uploaded to our Forums.

ARLnow.com’s legacy mobile site, meanwhile, is still accessible at http://m.arlnow.com. Users of non-touch screen phones, like certain Blackberries, should continue to use the legacy site.

As always, we welcome your feedback.

I vote do away with the dedicated mobile site – my android phone has handled your website perfectly for over a year, and I enjoy the photo uploads. If people’s phones cannot handle the real site, they can just subscribe to the email version.

My phone’s browser handles the full site OK. Opera Mobile loads it really well. The new mobile site drives me nuts the way they tried to show comment hierarchy, which is not a problem when viewing the full website.

Won’t somebody think of the images?

agreed with GC iphones/droids have a full web browser, if you are on a blackberry, you should probably just kill yourself.

I am not finding the “Switch to Mobile Version” link at the bottom of the page on either my BlackBerry or my PC.

    • Which Blackberry are you using? The mobile version link will not appear on a PC browser.

        Bold 8300

        • Our new mobile site was not designed for non-touch screen devices, unfortunately. Please continue using our existing mobile site at http://m.arlnow.com

  • Grateful

    Neither can I.

  • new mobile site works on my android phone, looks great!

new mobile version definitely looks snazzy tho not sure of the need… site worked fine for me before on both the non-touch blackberry and iphone and don’t think it’s worth the tradeoff of no longer being able to view/post images in the comment section.
