The traffic light sat the busy Clarendon intersection of Washington Boulevard, 10th Street and Fillmore Street is expected to remain dark throughout the morning rush hour following a car accident Thursday night.

Around 7:15 last night a car hopped the curb and took out the traffic signal control box near the Virginia ABC store. One minor injury was reported.

Arlington County crews have been working throughout the night to replace the traffic signal hardware, but the lights are not expected to come back on until after the morning rush hour. Police have set up cones in the intersection in order to keep traffic flowing in an orderly manner.

    Happy Friday the 13th!!!

Stories like this will only cause Arlington County to realize there are still intersections that don’t have traffic lights.

i bet this intersection works better today than when the lights are on.
we should consider removing more lights.

“Get the he!! outta my way — I gotta get to the ABC store before closing” … was heard as the car sailed over the curb!

they should make that intersection into an overpass.
it is so dangerous and SOOOO many cars going thru it

      waste of money

      You can’t be serious.

I know what a terrible idea, underpass would be better.

Should just make a tunnel. Everything is better with tunnels.

          • Tax and Spender

A street car that nobody will ride would be the best solution

if Washington Blvd. ducked under 10th Street it would be awesome.
And if the subway weren’t in the way it could also duck under Wilson Blvd.
Then we could have cool public plazas and traffic circles Like Dupont Circle. What a great place for everyone to congregate on the eastern entrance to Clarendon — the center of all great things in ARlington

    Whoa…late night update.

This is lousy intersection, especially for pedestrians. Poor markings, lights not long enough to get completely across. I am surprised there are not more accidents here. It needs a complete redesign. I’ve often seen drivers coming out the one-way entrance to northbound Fillmore.

Mass confusion everyday. I live at the Market Common and work in Fairfax so I use this intersection everyday when i am coming home at night.

9 times out of 10 — someone is coming straight for me on that small one way section of N Fillmore near the intersection between Screwtop and the ABC store. Yikes.
