Crime Report: Burka Armed Robbery

On Monday, two armed men robbed a jewelry store on Lee Highway, holding employees at gunpoint while snatching the store’s merchandise. One of the suspects was wearing a “one-piece burka with a hood,” according to this week’s Arlington County crime report.

ARMED ROBBERY, 01/16/12, 5100 block of N Lee Highway. On January 16 at 7:42 pm, two unknown suspects entered a jewelry store, brandished a firearm and while one suspect held the employees at gunpoint, the other suspect took an unknown amount of jewelry. Suspect description is two black males; one age 35-45, 6′ 250 lbs wearing a black hoody and jeans and the other 5’8 155 lbs wearing a one-piece burka with a hood.

A somewhat similar armed robbery took place last week on Columbia Pike. Two armed men robbed a convenience store while holding a customer at gunpoint, according to police.

ARMED ROBBERY, 01/13/12, 5500 block of S Columbia Pike. On January 13 at 10:15 pm two unknown suspects entered a convenience store, brandished a firearm and while one suspect held a customer at gunpoint the other suspect had the cashier open the register taking approximately $300. Suspect description is two black males, both age 17-20, 6′, 150 lbs wearing ski masks and jeans.

Also last week, a man was arrested for malicious wounding for striking a victim with a “small wooden table.”

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 01/15/12, 200 block of N Thomas Street. On January 15 at 1:27 am, victim was struck with a small wooden table. William Henry, 50, of Arlington was arrested for malicious wounding and held with no bond.

ASSAULT AND BATTERY-ARREST, 01/12/12, 1200 block of S. Scott Street. On January 12 at 3 am, a man assaulted a male family member. Chelub Conner, 31, of Arlington, was charged with Assault and Battery. He was held on a $2,500 bond.

ARMED ROBBERY, 01/15/12, S George Mason Dr/S 13 Street. On January 15 at 7:45 pm, victim was walking home when he was assaulted and robbed by two unknown suspects armed with a handgun. Suspects’ description is two black males, 18-25, 5’11, 170 lbs.

ARMED ROBBERY, 01/16/12, 1100 block of S Hayes Street. On January 16 at 3:37 pm, unknown suspect stole two laptops and when confronted by store employee, threatened him with a knife. Suspect description is a black male, 6′, 180 lbs wearing a puffy jacket and gray hat.

ROBBERY, 01/12/12, 4800 S Columbia Pike. On January 12 at 3:30 pm, two suspects took victim’s cell phone by force. Suspects’ description is two Hispanic males, one 35-40, 5’4 170 lbs and the other age 24-28, 5’4, 150 lbs.

ROBBERY, 01/16/12, 3900 block of N Fairfax Drive. Between January 14 at 10:00 am and January 16 at 7:55 am, two known subjects assaulted and robbed the victim over a dispute regarding money. Victim does not wish to prosecute.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (SERIES), 01/12/12, 2000 block of N. Brandywine Street and 1900 block of N. Cameron St. Between 8 pm on January 11, and 7:15 am on January 12, an unknown person broke into several vehicles. Various items were stolen. There is no suspect description.

BURGLARY, 01/15/12, 2000 block of S 27th Street. On January 15 between midnight and 9:23 am, suspect entered house thru unlocked door and stole cash, credit cards and electronics. No suspect description available.

BURGLARY, 01/15/12, 4900 block of N 19th Street. Between January 14 at 8:30 am and January 15 at 8:32 am, unknown suspect gained entry by removing an air conditioner unit and stole electronics and jewelry. No suspect information available.

BURGLARY, 01/16/12, 400 block of N Madison Street. On January 16 between 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm, unknown suspect entered house by breaking window and stole jewelry. No suspect information available.

BURGLARY, 01/16/12, 1500 block of S George Mason Drive. On January 13 at 9:15 am, unknown suspect entered house thru unlocked patio door and stole electronics. No suspect information available.

BURGLARY, 01/17/12, 5500 block of N 17th St. On January 17 at 5:02 pm, suspect entered house thru broken basement window and jewelry and electronics. No suspect description available.

BURGLARY, 01/17/12, 2600 block of S Arlington Mill Drive. On January 17 between 9:00 am and 9:30 am, unknown suspect gained entry to maintenance storage shed and stole tools. No suspect information available.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 01/12/12, 5200 block of N. Yorktown Boulevard. Between 11 pm on January 6, and 8 am on January 9, an unknown subject entered a school building and caused damage to the facility.

ATTEMPT BURGLARY, 01/13/12, 2000 block of S Columbia Pike. On January 13 at 4:55 pm, unknown suspect was seen prying a window screen open to gain access to ground floor apartment. No suspect description available.
