Voting for Vehicle Decal Contest to End

by Katie Pyzyk January 20, 2012 at 10:30 am 2,706 27 Comments

There are only two days left to cast a vote for which 2012-2013 decal you think should grace Arlington’s car windshields later this year.

Every year, high school students enter original artwork or photos into the Vehicle Decal Design Competition. A panel whittles down the entries to four finalists.

About 155,000 Arlington residents display the decals to prove payment of that vehicle’s personal property tax.

The four finalist designs, along with descriptions written by each student, are available online for viewing and voting. All votes must be submitted by noon on Sunday.

  • I vote for no decal at all.

    • Bluemontsince1961

+10, Overgrown Bush. I wish you’d run for County Board/Treasurer/Commissioner of the Revenue and win. I’d vote for you!

      • speonjosh

And then he’d have to figure out how to plug the hole in the budget from the lost revenue.

        • I didn’t say no tax. I said no decal.

        • CrystalMikey

Plenty of cities/counties in the Commonwealth still charge the $20-30ish for the decal but don’t give you one. Almost pure profit for them.

          • truth be told

Correct. They just call it a processing fee now and don’t spend the money on printing and mailing decals.

          • TooEasy

What will happen to those stupid decal check points if the decals are no longer required? Oh my no crime no overtime.

          • truth be told

They will just scan your license plate instead and will know if you are a tax scofflaw (take notice potential political candidates).

    • Greg

      Bondi? Is that you?

  • John Fontain

Gotta vote for ‘fun at the fair’ given the story last year about the Arlington county employee embezzling money from the fair.

  • TGEoA

I vote for the one where someone kicks O’Leary in the nads.

    • Bluemontsince1961

LOL! If we must have these silly decals, then that one would get my vote!

      • It is too bad we can’t post pictures anymore. Photoshopped decals would provide a whole day’s worth of entertainment.

        • Bluemontsince1961

I remember when people posted their own photoshopped decals last year – it was great and yes, entertaining.

          • Dan

Those were quite a bit of fun…not to mention that some were pretty clever.

  • JamesE

I want the one that Bondi has on her car.

  • Garden City

I went with Carnival rather than Death, Death or War. I do wish someone had submitted the Racing Piglets.

But wasn’t some county fair employee siphoning money from the operator of the ferris wheel or something? That’s what I think of when I see that.

    • Bluemontsince1961

      Or chickens.

    • soarlslacker

+10. I am also a bit tired of death, death, and war. Is the military the only representation of Arlington? I’ve grown a bit tired of the 9/11 mania. More Americans have died in Iraq and Afpak than died on 9/11. Of course no one counts the Iraqis, Afgans, and Pakistanis who have lost thier lives. What is the reason that our government does not treat everyone’s life as of equal value?

  • BreakPause02

    Red? Really?

How about Yellow, so there isn’t so much contrast on the dash. Why not match it with the inspection sticker?

    • Crystal City

My new inspection sticker has a big RED ’13’ on it, so I guess the big red decal will match. Good thing I’m not superstitious or anything.

  • j

Are we voting for it end?

  • Tre

What ever happened to attaching photos to comments?? I wanted to submit some last minute candidates.

  • BlueSkies

Next year, I want to see one of Cooch’s rats.

  • david markle

I vote no decal at all.

Any of the great photos people have sent in here would be better.
