395-truck-axUpdate at 10:10 a.m. — One lane of traffic is now squeezing by to the left of the accident while crews work to clean up the spill and clear the scene. HOV traffic is backed up to Shirlington circle.

The HOV lanes of I-395 have been shut down due to a jackknifed tractor trailer that struck the highway wall divide.

Police have blocked traffic because the truck is leaking fuel and they fear it might ignite. The fuel is coming from a 100+ gallon saddle tank, according to scanner traffic. A hazmat team is being dispatched to the scene.

A long line of northbound traffic is now at a standstill in the HOV lanes.

Aren’t tractor trailers manual transmission ? How is it possible it was involved in an accident ? I thought only automatics got into accidents…

      This is awesome!

    Damn Metro and bicycles!

  • Yup

That Lexus driver is super pissed right now

I didn’t think tractor trailers were allowed on the HOV lanes. Was I operating under the wrong assumptions?

      From VDOT:

“On most interstates in northern Virginia, trucks are permitted to use HOV lanes if they have the required number of people. Tractor trailer trucks are not permitted on the HOV lanes in the Hampton Roads area or on I-66 inside the Beltway at any time.”

So I guess that means if the lanes are open to all traffic, the truck is in the clear.

Thanks. Guess I was thinking of 66 inside the B’way.

If you look closely at the picture it looks as if the driver may have been trying to make a sharp turn in order to squeeze through that little break in the median. If that’s the case, well, that’s just insane.

It was a glorious accident. Good show!

You mean one of the trucks driven by the company which is held by one Maryon Barry? Could it possibly be true?
