Crime Report: Homeowner Confronts Burglars

A homeowner in the East Falls Church area encountered a pair of burglars in his or her home Monday afternoon. The burglars fled, but not before taking numerous valuables.

From this week’s Arlington County crime report:

BURGLARY, 140929045, 6400 block of N. Washington Boulevard. At 3:15 pm on September 29, as a residence was being burglarized, a homeowner confronted the subjects and they fled on foot. Numerous items of value were taken. Suspect one is described as a black male in his twenties, approximately 6’0″ tall and 170 lbs. He was wearing a black wool cap and jeans at the time of the incident. Suspect two is described as a black male in his twenties and approximately 5’9″ tall. He was wearing a black long sleeve plaid shirt and had short, cropped hair.

Also this week, someone smashed windows on 11 cars and stole various belongings in an apartment parking garage in Rosslyn.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (series), 140924008, 1800 block of N. Oak Street. Between 12:40 am and 3 am on September 24, an unknown subject(s) entered a parking garage and smashed the front passenger side window of at least 11 vehicles and had various items stolen. There is no suspect(s) description.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 140929062, 4200 block of N. Fairfax Drive. At 8:30 pm on September 29, an intoxicated subject attempted to stab several patrons with a knife at First Down Bar. Police confronted the subject on scene and after failing to comply with officers commands to drop his weapon, the subject fled on foot to a heavily populated area near the Ballston Metro Station. Officers attempted a taser deployment but ultimately took the subject into custody following a takedown. The weapon was recovered and Larry Sutton, 19, of Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted malicious wounding, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, underage possession of alcohol and drunk in public. Sutton was also wanted out of Washington, DC for armed robbery. He was held without bond.

ROBBERY, 140929063, 4200 block of N. Wilson Boulevard. At 7:30 pm on September 29, a subject stole items from a mall kiosk and when confronted assaulted the cashier. Police detained the subject, who had been previously banned from the property. Mitchell Baltimore, 24, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with robbery, petit larceny and trespassing. He was held without bond.

BURGLARY, 140929049, 700 block of N. Barton Street. Between 7:10 am and 4:10 pm on September 29, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole numerous items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 140929054, 3200 block of N. 5th Street. Between 9 am and 5:21 pm on September 29, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole electronics and a firearm. There is no suspect(s) description.

LATE BURGLARY, 140929057, 900 block of N. Wayne Street. Between 2 and 6 pm on September 29, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole numerous items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY, 140929030, 2300 block of N. Clarendon Boulevard. Between 5:45 pm on September 26 and 8:15 am on September 29, an unknown subject(s) entered an office suite and stole a laptop. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 140924035, 6200 block of N. Washington Boulevard. Between 10 am and 11:55 am on September 24, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole numerous items of value. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 140925049, 1900 block of N. Harvard Street. Between 7 pm on September 15 and 9:23 pm on September 25, an unknown subject(s) entered a residence and stole numerous valuables. There is no suspect(s) description.

The STEAM Workforce Development Teacher Fellowship provides Arlington Public Schools (APS) high school, middle school, and elementary school teachers with opportunities to learn about workplace needs in STEAM-related fields and for them to use the experience to enhance student learning to match workplace expectations in a selected industry. STEAM Fellows participate in a three-week summer fellowship, receiving a $4,000 stipend upon completion.
