Crime Report: Abduction at East Falls Church Metro

Police car lightsA man and woman were able to escape an alleged abduction on Saturday after the male suspect fell asleep in the back of their car, according to Arlington County Police.

The suspect, described as a white, Hispanic or Middle Eastern man in his mid- to late-20s, jumped into the woman’s car while she was dropping off the man at the East Falls Church Metro station at about 4:20 p.m., according to Arlington County Police Department spokesman Lt. Kip Malcolm. The victims told police the suspect said “I need a ride” and directed her to drive.

“Just drive and no one will get hurt,” the alleged abductor told the two victims, according to Malcolm. “Don’t do anything stupid, and no one has to get hurt.”

The victims pulled into the Exxon station at 400 W. Broad Street in Falls Church, Malcolm said, and were able to exit the vehicle and call police after the suspect fell asleep in the back. The suspect, described as 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, 160-170 pounds with black hair, wearing a dark ball cap, dark blue hoodie, and blue jeans, fled the scene and avoided apprehension when he heard police sirens approaching.

ABDUCTION, 141122061, 1900 block of N Sycamore St, On 11/22/14 at 1620 hours, the male and female victims told police they had exited the highway and had stopped to allow the male victim to exit the vehicle when an unknown male suspect entered the rear of the vehicle demanding they continue to drive and threatening them if they called police or used their cell phones. The victim(s) continued to drive into Falls Church where the pulled into a gas station, exited the vehicle, and called police. The suspect, who was now asleep in the back, was alerted by police sirens and fled the scene. He is described as a white Hispanic or Middle Eastern male with no discernable accent, unshaven, 5’09” to 5’11”, mid to late 20s, 160-170 lbs, black hair, wearing a dark ball cap, dark blue hoodie, and blue jeans.

ARSON, 141120024, 6000 block of Wilson Blvd, On 11/20/14 between the hours of 1105 and 1140, officers on routine patrol observed a fire in the treeline. A witness observed 2 male subjects coming from the area of the fire. The first subject is described as a 18-20 year old Hispanic male, 5’10” 150 pounds, curly black hair shoulder length, wearing a unknown type hat, dark clothes, and carrying a skateboard. The second subject is also described as a 18-20 year old Hispanic male, similar build, wearing a light colored wind breaker type jacket.

BURGLARY, 141120036, 500 block of S Quincy St, Victim reported to police that sometime between the hours of 1200 and 1343 on 11/20/14, an unknown subject may have entered his home while he was gone and stole several small electronic items. The victim states he left the side door unlocked and it was found ajar when he returned.

BURGLARY 141121062, 600 block of 25th St S, Sometime between the hours of 0730 and 2043 on 11/21/14, an unknown subject forced entry through the rear door of the victim’s home. Thus far, only a laptop appears to have been taken. No witnesses or suspect information at this time.

STRANGULATION/IMPEDE 9-11 CALL/ASSAULT AND BATTERY, 141121069, 2600 block of N Upton St., A male and female, known to one another, were involved in a physical altercation. Both parties sustained injuries and the female was later transported to the hospital. The male was arrested for the above charges.

UNLAWFUL WOUNDING, 141122004, 1100 block of N Highland St, On 11/22/14 at 0120 hours, an employee of the Clarendon Grill sustained a cut under his eye from being punched in the face while attempting to break up a disturbance at the bar. A male subject was arrested and charged.

ATTEMPT RAPE, 141122069, 4200 block of 2nd St N, On 11/22/14 at 2308 hours, officers responded to the area after another officer heard the female victim scream. The victim was located and stated the suspect, who had been observing her through a window while she was at work, attempted to rape her while she was on her way home. The suspect approached her from behind pulling her hair, covering her mouth and attempting to pull down her pants. The victim was able to free herself by biting the suspect’s hand and began to scream, alerting nearby residents. The suspect ran off but was found by other officers in the area. The suspect was arrested after the victim positively identified the suspect.

ATTEMPT ROBBERY, 141123043, 1300 block of N Hudson St, On 11/23/14 at 1935 hours, a male victim told police he was walking his dog along the 1300 block of Key Blvd when an unknown male subject approached him demanding his money. The victim punched the suspect in the face and the suspect fled the east, on foot, down Key Blvd. The suspect is described as a white Hispanic male, 5’06”-5’07”, 150 lbs, Olive complexion, wearing a white tshirt and dark blue jeans.

BURGLARY/GRAND LARCENY/DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY/ATTEMPT BREAKING AND ENTERING (SERIES) 141124032/043/044/045, 1000 block of 22ndSt S, 800 block of 19th St S, 1300 block of 22nd St S, and 900 block of 18th St S, Sometime between the hours of 0910 and 1516 hours on 11/24/14, a subject made entry into into at least 3 homes and attempted to make entry into a 4th. Police came in contact with a subject matching a description provided by residents in the area. The subject ran, but was eventually apprehended. Items found on the suspect matched those taken from the several burglaries in the area. The male subject was arrested and charged accordingly.

SEXUAL BATTERY, 141124055, 4200 block of 11th St N, On 11/24/14 at 2122 hours, the female victim reported to police that she was assaulted by an unknown male subject who approached her, shouted unintelligible statements, then grabbed her buttocks and ran off. The victim followed the male but lost sight of him a short while later. He is described as a white male, possibly Hispanic, 5’08” to 5’10”, 150 lbs, 30-35 years of age, light complexion, and slim build wearing a partially unzipped black jacket or sweatshirt with an orange shirt underneath, dark colored baggy pants and dark shoes.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY, 141125026, 1100 block of 21St S, Sometime between 2000 hours on 11/24/14 and 0730 hours on 11/25/14 female victim reported to police that an unknown subject attempted to gain entry into her home by cutting the screen on her front door and pushing up the window on the door. She found her door still locked and no items appeared to be missing. There are no suspects at this time however an arrest was made the previous day for numerous burglaries in the same area.

BURGLARY/GRAND LARCENY, 141125044, 5800 block of N 25th St, On 11/25/14 between 1445 and 1500 hours, officers responded for a residential alarm and found an open window without a screen along with other indicators that entry had been made. The homeowner arrived and confirmed which windows/doors were expected to be closed and/or locked. It was determined several items had been missing. During this time, officers in the area stopped a suspicious vehicle and determined the subjects were involved in this incident. The window screen and items which were taken from the house were found in the suspect’s vehicle. All suspects were arrested and charged accordingly.

BREAKING AND ENTERING, 141125047, 4100 block of Henderson Rd, A female victim was notified by her neighbor that the front door to her apartment was found open. The victim, who is currently in the process of a divorce, stated it does not appear anything was missing from the apartment. Building maintenance confirmed they did not make entry for any reason and her estranged husband is suspected to have made entry.

BURGLARY, 141125055, 2100 block of Jefferson Davis Hwy, Sometime between 0815 and 1700 hours on 11/25/14, an unknown subject entered the victim’s residence and stole 2 laptops. The victim states the door to their apartment remains unlocked but closed throughout the day. No maintenance was performed in the residence and there are no suspects at this time.

STEAM Fellows participate in a three-week summer fellowship, receiving a $4,000 stipend upon completion.
