Crime Report: Police Investigate Suspicious ‘Insurance’ Incident

Police car lightsA homeowner near Ballston was unexpectedly visited by four random, middle-aged people who claimed to be representatives of an insurance company.

Police are now investigating the incident, which happened Monday around noon on the 4500 block of N. Carlin Springs Road, as a case of unlawful entry and possibly more.

Additional information from an Arlington County Police Department crime report:

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2017-02270125, 4500 block of N. Carlin Springs Road. At approximately 12:06 p.m. on February 27, officers responded to the report of a breaking and entering. Upon arrival, it was determined that four unknown individuals entered a residence while the homeowner was inside and claimed to be an insurance company. The individuals observed each room and then left the residence. No items appeared to be missing. The first suspect is described as a white female in her late forties, with short blonde hair, and was heavy set. The second suspect is described as a black male in his late forties with a thin build. The third suspect is described as a white male in his late forties, with black/grey hair, and was heavy set. The fourth suspect is described as a white female in her late forties, with light brown hair, and an average build. The investigation is ongoing.

LARCENY FROM AUTO (Series), 2017-02250088, 6000 block of 23rd Street N. At approximately 6:11 a.m. on February 25, police were dispatched to the report of a tampering with auto that had just occurred. A witness confronted a suspect he observed inside a neighbor’s vehicle. The suspect fled the scene in a maroon colored sedan. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’10” and weighing 160 lbs. He was wearing a black hoodie and black pants at the time of the incident. While canvassing the area, police discovered approximately 30 unlocked vehicles were entered and numerous items of value stolen.

MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING, 2017-02260067, 1400 block of S. George Mason Drive. At approximately 5:04 a.m. on February 26, police were dispatched to the report of a destruction of property. The female victim advised she was insider her residence when she heard some movement outside her window. Several seconds later, a large rock came through the window causing it to break. There is no suspect(s) description.

BURGLARY, 2017-02250155, 1600 block of Crystal Square. Between 7:00 p.m. on February 24 and 11:00 a.m. on February 25, an unknown subject(s) forced entry inside a business and stole numerous items of value. There is no suspect(s) description. The investigation is ongoing.

BOMB THREAT, 2017-02220081, 1900 block of S. Eads Street. At approximately 8:38 a.m. on February 22, an unknown subject called in a bomb threat. A K9 sweep was conducted with negative results. There is no suspect description. The investigation is ongoing.
