Courthouse appeals to both urban and suburban residents, giving it the best of both worlds. Given that the Arlington County government seat is located in the center of the Courthouse, much as its name describes, it initially gives the impression that it is a city neighborhood, but it is much more than that.
At any moment, you can hop on the Orange or Silver Metro lines, take a bike into D.C., or casually meander through the quiet neighborhood streets steps away from the bustling Wilson and Clarendon Boulevards. In reality, Courthouse is more akin to a charming town thanks to its diverse restaurant options, welcoming watering holes, and busy small businesses.
The places that residents and visitors return to, such as Ragtime and Ireland’s Four Courts, are what give Courthouse its distinct sense of community and friendliness despite being in an urban area. When I first came to the area over 10 years ago, these two places quickly became frequent stops of mine.
To this day, they continue to give me a feeling of home and belonging. It’s no surprise that I feel this way because Ragtime just celebrated its 23rd year anniversary and Ireland’s Four Courts began its 28th year.
I stopped in and chatted with Ragtime’s District Manager Sam Saslowsky and Ireland’s Four Courts Managing Partner Dave Cahill to show why these places are so special and why they are dubbed Courthouse staples.
